Round Rainbow Ripple Finished

Finished size: 52.5". Two skeins each of Caron Simply Soft Brites 3 oz. in 6 rainbow colors, I needed 3 skeins of the purple (aka Grape). Total of 15 3 oz. skeins. H hook.

The pattern is Aztec Sun from the Leisure Arts booklet, 40 Favorite Ripple Afghans. I modified it a little bit to accommodate the stripe pattern I used. Basically, I followed the pattern as written, starting with 3 row of pink at the center, but changing colors every other row until I reached the second sequence of fill in points (yellow parts on my blanket). I wanted all of them to be yellow so I made the second set of fill in points 3 rows earlier than the pattern called for and fudged the rest.

It's a baby blanket for a family member. I really love how it looks, the colors were so fun and happy, and I know it will be super soft after it's washed. I'm spraying it with water and letting it air dry to block it.

My latest ripple, using up homespun, pattern from web. I'm randomly working in the blues and reds, because I have alot more tan than I do any of those. So far, I think its pretty, and really soft!

Something Different and Useful

Since the ripple afghan re-do is going rather slowly for me, I put the ripply skills to good use and made this dishcloth last night.

These tickle my fancy for all the right reasons: they used up bits of thrift-store crocheting cotton that no-one wanted; they are quick; they are useful; they are environmentally friendly; they are pretty; they are cheap.

Four re-usable, washable, pretty dishcloths for 50 cents and a few hours work. What could be wrong with that?

Nearly there...

In an effort to spur myself on to more rippling action, and to finish this beast of a blanket, I am posting here today! I have been such a bad little rippler lately. I have about 20 color bands to work, and then I'll be done...so why can't I seem to get this thing finished? It's not the seemingly daunting task of tying ends in, because I actually enjoy that. It's not the fear of the anticlimax of completion. It's just plain and simple distraction, folks. That's it. I am one majorly sidetracked girl right now!

I'm really not sure about the whole, women-are-good-at-multitasking thing. I certainly don't seem to be able to pull it off. Maybe it's just too many tasks. I mean, everyone has limits, right? But hey, right here and now I'm going to recommit myself to finishing this blanket! I will finish this afghan, if it's the last thing I do!

So here are a few pictures of #3. I'm not loving it yet(I think that is a common problems with the multi colored one). I'm hoping that when I get a bit more into it I'll like it more. I keep talking myself out of frogging it. I chained 219(plus a few extra for safety), size G hook, using lots of Caron SS. I've not measured it since it was two rows tall, but it does just slightly hang over my queen size bed. I'm going to just go until I run out of yarn ( if I don't have enough I'll just pick up a few balls at Wal-Mart...although I hope I don't have to)

Black & Red Ripple is finished

I managed to finish this yesterday, never again will I crochet in acrylic yarn when it's hot.

It's about 95 x 90 cm, used up all of the yarn I had in these colours.

I have two more ripples planned, a blanket for me using cotton yarn & I have an idea for a pillow using up more of my stash, but the pillow yarn is wool, so I think I'll wait until autumn to start that one.

My ripple in Manos Del Uraguay is comming along. I'm starting to run out of some of the colors so I think the end is near.

Hi Everyone!

I have my ripple afghan going strong. I'm using Susan B's pattern and am enjoying it very much. The yarn is RH Super Saver, many different colors. I'm just sort of throwing in colors as I go with no set pattern of stripes. It's so much fun to watch this unfold. Love seeing everyone else's ripples. There is more on the horizon, especially a round one. I just love the looks of a round ripple.

I also have Jan Eaton's 200 Ripple Stitch patterns book and am eager to do several in there, both knit and crochet. So many ripples, so little time.

Ripple #3

So I started #2 and #3. I had to set aside #2(so no pictures yet) because 3 is a baby blanket for a friend that is due in October and I would love to give it to her early. I'm using the Soft Waves pattern, a size G hook and Caron SS. I'm using white and then the brites for the blue and the green. I'm thinking that I will need 12 repeats, so with 4 done I'm a third of the way done.



I'm hoping to be able to blog more often. You can read about why I have been busy at my blog:)

Yum Yum Yum

I am in love with my ripple. The colors are so warm and refreshing at the same time. It makes me happy to look at it, touch it. But I am hating those ends. I always try to avoid projects with a lot of color changes for that reason. This is one project that is worth it. It was supposed to be 10 colors and I left one out, the teal. Now I have to figure out if I should just skip it or work it in somewhere. The colors are named after food, grape, honey, chocolate, berry, bordeaux, so I get hungry every time I look at it... :D I am supposed to be doing laundry, so I have to go. Just could not wait to share!

Don't know why I'm talking like a Pirate today...maybe because I feel like I found a treasure yesterday. Was at Hobby Lobby for a refill on my Sugar & Cream yarns, and saw Leisure Arts books were 30% off.

It truly is no-end-in-sight looking now!
It's big enough to cover my legs, which was nice yesterday as it was a bit cool in the shade. I sat in my patio lounge chair and worked on a couple of rows. This is one cozy blanket for warm weather. Can't wait to continue.

my edges look funny or is it me?

Ok friends, I finished my first ever round ripple or really any ripple Ive ever done. It turned out great and was a lot of fun making it. Now Im going to make 5 more for my grandkids for christmas this year. So now you know what Ill be making:) heehee Crocheting away I gooooooo...

Ripple #3 a la broken leg

So here is my third ripple. I know, I never posted pictures of the second. It's a 35x40in baby blanket done in caron simply soft white, baby blue, and baby green. It was supposed to be a gift for my boyfriend's friend/pharmacy manager, but is currently buried in it's cute baby bag underneath the mountain of laundry in my room that I cannot do due to the leg in the picture. :) Every time I bug the boyfriend about at least calling the woman, whose baby was born 6 weeks ago, he says he'll do it eventually. *sigh*

Anyway, this new ripple is using most of the same colors as the last one. It's a throw size blanket, for my girlfriend Patty. She has 3 small children, 7, 5, and almost 2, so it's red heart acrylic for its wash-ability. Kids are messy. :) It's exactly half way done. I figure one more set of color repeats will make it wide enough to snuggle under. I LOVE the colors and the way they work together. I get the feeling this isn't the only one of these I'll end up doing.

For an update on the leg, I can't put any weight on it until august at the soonest. It's going to be a LONG summer... If anyone has any entertainment ideas, let me know. :)

Blanket in progress

So my second ripple is in progress...and I think it will turn out just fine.
After having done lots and lots of trials using different patterns from the Jan Eaton, I finally decided to use 'Soft waves'. Not that I didn't like the others - but thinking of the colors, I think this is the best one.
All the stribes come in random order - I just pick up the color, I think will look best. That's the way, I usualy prefers to work - so it's perfect.


I have not used all the colors yet.
The blanket will be about 140 cm X 160 cm - but that's in the future :-). My needlesize is small, so this will take some time to make. But that's ok - I already love it. It's fun to make - and the colors make me so happy every time I work with them.

Hot days filled with rippling

I've been doing alot of rippling in this hot weather, haven't felt like doing anything else.
I must say crocheting with acrylic yarn is not the best thing to do in hot weather.
I'm about halfway done & can't decide if I should continue the pattern as it is or if I should mirror it, what do you all think???

Baby Tiger Ripple Completed

A long ride in the car this past weekend enabled me to finish the "Baby Tiger Ripple" and to deliver it to its recipient. The orange and blue stripes were selected because my brother is a basketball coach, and these are his team colors. In addition, they are "the tigers."

• Pattern: Soft Waves from 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns by Jan Eaton
• Yarn: Blue Sky Dyed Cotton in Poppy and Indigo
• Hook: Size I
• Modifications: I included a border of two rows of single crochet.
• What I learned: I do not like weaving in ends. The task of "weaving in" is not the problem. What I don't like is the potential for all of that yarn to unravel. I would like to try a round ripple some time, but I think that I may use a hand painted yarn rather than changing colors. Perhaps three skeins of STR heavy weight would do for a baby size round ripple?

Another one down, one more to go

The black and blue/green one is the original ripple that I started the group with. It is done and I have just started the black, green and purple one. The colors remind me of pansies. I still have another that I started awhile ago waiting in the wings. I think I'll be frogging it, though, because the colors (beige, light sage green, brown and wine) don't excite me right now.

So nice to see all of the new ripples!

Round Rainbow Ripple

I started another ripple. The pattern is Aztec Sun from the Leisure Arts booklet, 40 Favorite Ripple Afghans. Yarn is Caron Simply Soft Brites, size H hook. I'm not sure I'll make it as big as the pattern (60" across) -- I'm thinking 45" might be better. It's a baby blanket for a family member, so I can't post it on my own blog. I hate keeping a secret. . .

Rippling in The City of Roses

Yeah... First week of Rose Festival here in the City of Roses, Portland Oregon.So it seems only appropriate to hike a whole three blocks over to one of our neighborhood rose gardens...since it's not raining as one would expect this week. This also happens to be a spot I enjoy sitting and rippling. :D

Pattern here 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns .Yes.. yet another Soft Waves. Why reinvent the wheel.. the original popular choice is grand.

Yarns.. Caron Simply Soft, RH Soft Yarn, and a few pale tones of TLC Essentials.

Hook : Clover Soft Touch sizes G / 4.4 mm and H / 5.0mm .

Started with 200 ch. wide. Measures 50 inches wide.

June's Afghan, a Ripple, Has Been Started

I am keeping on track for an afghan a month (crocheted, or knitted) so that I have enough for each family member. June's afghan is a ripple for one of my 6 brothers. This one is in Lionbrand Woolease (soft!) with a J hook and using Strata from 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns. I had started this exact color sequence in the stitch pattern called Lavender Fields, but didn't like the holey gaps that come from skipping stitches. And, the pattern was full of errors - easy enough to figure out and correct, but I just didn't like it. I decided it wasn't worth sucking it up for a full afghan's worth, so I tore it out.

I can't post this to my regular site because this particular brother visits my website and will know it is for him.

I finished the May afghan; a non-ripple one for my mom. I think it turned out very nice.

Yay, I am ready to start

I am so ready to start my ripple. I keep lurking at all the beautiful color combinations and I get more excited about making mine. It took me forever to pick my colors. I do love the pastels but my home is more earth tones and it just would not go. Then arranging the colors made me feel very indecisive but finally I just said this is it and I'm sticking with it. I am using RH soft and a couple of Bernat Satin. I am using the soft waves pattern and was questioning the edges like the previous poster. It just does not seem like it is going to be straight. I will do a couple of rows more and see what happens. I hope I don't have to frog.

My End Is Looking Weird

I have a strange feeling that this edge is just going to keep getting wider every row. Does it look weird to you guys? (I'm using the Soft Waves pattern) When I was working the chain, I ended up doing the increases into the last two chains. Now, every row after that, I still have stitches to work after those last increases. Is this how its supposed to be?

I started my ripple.....

Yay, I finally started my ripple blanket! Using my own pattern, which I'll post on my blog tomorrow. Had all this yarn sitting there for days waiting for me...

So yesterday I just jumped in and started. I'm using my own pattern, deviating from the previous color arrangement I used in my test piece.


Decided to go with a double row of dc instead of alternating dc/sc, similar in appearance to most people's on the blog here. I'll post my pattern soon--it's easy.

I like everyone's ripples here--I am very inspired by all the creative people out there in yarn-land. Opal has made so many of these it makes my head spin!!! My objective is to make a summer weight blanket. I love the weight of the Sugar & Cream after washing and shrinking, and I love the way it drapes. So in spite of other projects still unfinished, I started. It's been fun so far!

Progressing on the ripple!

Well, it seems that it takes me about an hour per row, so my ripple is going slowly. I don't know if I'm slow or if that's about par, but I kinda wish I could go faster! Oh well. It helps that I recently got addicted to a new TV show and got the DVDs, so now I have an excuse to camp out in front of the TV for 4 hours at a time. :)

I haven't posted about my progress since I had only three stripes, and now I have 14! When I made that last post, I only had three colors (and I was sure I hadn't bought enough yarn). Now I have 8 colors, and two skeins of several of them, so I hope I won't run low. Although I do kind of wish I had started out with a larger hook -- I'm using an I; it was the largest I had -- so that it might be a little bit lighter and drapier. Though I'm certain I'll appreciate the thick warm cosiness of this dense fabric, come January!

Another new rippler!

Hi, I've been admiring these for a while, and joined when I first started my first ripple - the pattern is feathery fans afghan. This is where I am so far, but I think I got lost somewhere in the last row. Most likely when I set it down for a couple days as I'm 2 stitches short at the end of the row I just finished (my first repeat, about 7 rows into it). I'm not sure where, but it also seems much looser for this section than the first - and I'm pretty sure I've not changed tension, but I guess perhaps I did. Heh.

Here is a photo of it, and I may have to frog back to the solid blue to figure out where i went wrong. I'm going to get a stitch counter, or those flip notecards to keep track of it next time. :)
