It has been a long time since anyone post on here. I applied probably two years ago, but never got around to actually posting something.<br />
<br />
Well, now I am moving and I will have to get rid of most of my supplies, so I am trying to finish up blankets and to sell them.<br />
<br />
But here is I made as a winter gift for my daughter's friend. I was inspired by this work: http://neisripplealong.blogspot.com/2007/04/i-finished-it.html<br />
<br />
I used Carron Simply Soft Brites in: Watermelon, Mango, Limelight, Blue Mint and Grape. I also used Carron Simply Soft in Lemon for the yellow.<br />
<br />
The blanket measures roughly 4'10" X 38".<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.bernat.com/data/pattern/image/image_4869.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.bernat.com/data/pattern/image/image_4869.jpg" width="256" /></a></div><br />
The pattern starts out a bit finicky- I've had to alter a couple of spots to keep it lying flat. I think it's going to turn out pretty though! I'm working it up in Oyster Heather and Spruce worsted weight Wool of the Andes from KnitPicks.<br />
<br />
In other news, there's a giveaway going on at my blog! I have a set of three adorable handmade dishcloths to give away in celebration of my blogiversary. To enter, just hop over to <a href="http://stitch-witchery.blogspot.com/2011/02/can-you-dig-it.html">the giveaway post</a> on my blog and leave a comment. (yes, that's a little <a href="http://icanhascheezburger.com/2010/02/09/funny-pictures-doin-it-wrong-2/">LolCat</a>s-inspired humor for you)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
<br />
Note: This post doesn't specifically deal with ripples, but it is definitely applicable to a ripple pattern. Sorry for the slightly off-topic nature, I'm just really looking for some feedback on this.<br />
<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">So, I recently saw a tutorial from a British crocheter on how to do a US double crochet (known as a treble crochet in the UK). At first I skipped over it to get to the part of the pattern I was interested in, but when I came back to it, I noticed something odd. The instructions for this stitch differed from the way I learned to do it. At first I thought, "Oh, she must have gotten something mixed up!," mostly because it sounded like an extended double crochet to me. At this point, I decided to do a little research on the interwebs.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Guess what I found out? </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Apparently, I have been working the double crochet incorrectly for as long as I've been crocheting! It's pretty odd too, because it's neither a double nor a half double, but seemingly a hybrid of the two. So, here's the difference:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>The instructions I found for it indicate that you should:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">yarn over </div><div style="text-align: left;">insert hook into stitch</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through first loop (the stitch that's on the hook, so that there are now 3 loops on the hook)</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through two loops (so that now there are two loops)</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through the last two loops.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>In contrast, the way I was taught is as follows</b>:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, insert hook into stitch</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through first TWO loops on hook (that's the stitch that's on the hook plus the first loop) so that there are 2 loops left on the hook</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through last two loops on the hook</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Furthermore, the instructions I found for a half double crochet were:</b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, insert hook into stitch</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through first loop (leaving three loops on the hook)</div><div style="text-align: left;">yo, draw through remaining three loops</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Is this just a different tradition in crochet stitches? I could swear I have seen this double crochet in some of my mother's old crochet books. I don't plan on changing the way I crochet over this, but I did find it to be somewhat odd. Does my method sound familiar to anyone else out there?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

Below is a photo of two baby blankets I have started, since my niece and one of my sisters-in-law are both pregnant! One is a simple little ripple that will alternate between mint green and bright white, and the other will be a super-sized granny square with the same color theme. Wish me luck! :) </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

I've been working on this ripple since my last ripple... its for one of my cousins, shes due next month and shes having a baby boy. I thought these colors looked cute... light baby blue, mint green and pale yellow (doesnt really look pale in this pic, actually the colors doesnt show up at pretty in this pic., looks better in person). They all look a bit bumpy and uneven, but that's because they've been <s>stuffed</s> folded neatly into bags because I'm out of wool for them. I seem to pick wool's from hell for my ripples because I always manage to pick a colour/maker that my wool shop likes to discontinue as soon as I get a few rows under my belt. I wanted that, because it's for my tall dh and ds to fight over for a couch blankie, but each row seems to take a long time. I'll get it done, but since winter's about over here in South Florida, I'm going to aim for next fall for a completion date. If I get it done sooner, yay for me. Meanwhile, it's big enough to cover me up while I'm working on it, unless one of our cats decides to take a nap on it at the same time. </div>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668884398846525478.post-33914459244793506772010-02-28T13:04:00.008-06:002010-02-28T13:23:49.865-06:00What to do when the ripple goes straight<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaxjYAa4U6VD_aTpaoeWMOKZsY4yHBdIqb1tViNL3DwwrB41U7kamYY9CZHmBWD0azZOR7MM21XOEnzwmAJIRx0vTeAtxQUD4xP4BJu9tezA9FQnJPeqdwSi6OoK-LBT8apEux0jziwsnE/s1600-h/close+up+straight+ripple.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 400px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443374416421462690" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaxjYAa4U6VD_aTpaoeWMOKZsY4yHBdIqb1tViNL3DwwrB41U7kamYY9CZHmBWD0azZOR7MM21XOEnzwmAJIRx0vTeAtxQUD4xP4BJu9tezA9FQnJPeqdwSi6OoK-LBT8apEux0jziwsnE/s400/close+up+straight+ripple.jpg" /></a> Hello and thanks for letting me join!<br /><br /><br /><br /><div>I am desperate to make my first Ripple blanket but have hit a problem with the lack of rippling of the first row.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><br /> </div><div>I have made the mistake of retaining in my little head a tip about making your foundation chain. I started it in Jan. I love the bright colors. I just used leftover rolls of yarn from another afghan I made. Its not perfect, theres alot of little mistakes in it. But thats ok cause I just made it for myself :) My side seem to grow if I'm not careful. I've already started another ripple and its not perfect either. I will keep trying til I get a perfect or almost perfect ripple.<br /><br />Thank You for letting my join the group.<br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668884398846525478.post-59578366688935687982010-02-17T10:59:00.001-06:002010-02-17T11:00:59.130-06:00Granny Ripple Finished<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDmcobWPv-fG7Cgt-kdUrnH1BsSRtnAjm-71_SeT0dtjbNU6WKKl53KqieLxRPT8qwUj6j6XpVDLuax2bIjHF7b7k6WGm3jHhGmfYtM-TVNyhZ7IXpfcvDr_dfNSfPl-fpfJYGwnLiMQ8/s1600-h/grbb.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 310px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDmcobWPv-fG7Cgt-kdUrnH1BsSRtnAjm-71_SeT0dtjbNU6WKKl53KqieLxRPT8qwUj6j6XpVDLuax2bIjHF7b7k6WGm3jHhGmfYtM-TVNyhZ7IXpfcvDr_dfNSfPl-fpfJYGwnLiMQ8/s320/grbb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439258369174316082" /></a><br />I used a "G" hook and <a href="http://www.caron.com/color_cards/cc_brites.html">Simply Soft yarn in Brites</a>. The Pattern comes from a small booklet called <a href="http://www.shopatron.com/products/productdetail/part_number=75049/303.0?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=googleshopping">Nursery Favorites by Leisure Arts</a>. But I simplified the pattern and if you want to do that also or prefer not to buy on line you can use this <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/tx5/angelcrafts/patterns/grannyripple.html">pattern</a>.<br /><br />The colors are Coconut, Mango, Watermelon, Lemonade, Lymelite, and Blue Mint. The pattern I used was five rows of each color and two rows of Coconut separating each color. I worked my way up to the center (blue) and as you can see I did a double center and then worked my way back down the color spectrum. I am pleased with it and hope they will be also but I would call it more of a crib blanket at this point since it is so large.Ghosthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17254230247766501963noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668884398846525478.post-28062881972475988382010-02-09T15:50:00.000-06:002010-02-09T15:51:09.583-06:00Baby Ripple Hat<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4pXWalnX_Dk5XjOS60s2siG-8HQA1ShWpiElYnfIA0CYyovhxy44QTSssKZRmIZg-LEKhH3_F_FlPMtZtKjgISY-3N4m4J9ppW9vpM9MeQRqu_5VtMpnmaAZ4iJMFMn-H-gIGHuTASQRX/s1600-h/IMG_2727.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4pXWalnX_Dk5XjOS60s2siG-8HQA1ShWpiElYnfIA0CYyovhxy44QTSssKZRmIZg-LEKhH3_F_FlPMtZtKjgISY-3N4m4J9ppW9vpM9MeQRqu_5VtMpnmaAZ4iJMFMn-H-gIGHuTASQRX/s320/IMG_2727.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436362418547870242" /></a>One more hat done. This one is called <a href="http://www.toastyfrog.net/2009/12/25/baby-ripple-hat-crochet-pattern/">Ripple Baby Hat</a> and was made using the cotton flocked ribbon yarn and Sassy Stripes by Moda Dea in the color Rave. I'd wanted to make one that I liked as much as my old <a href="http://neisripplealong.blogspot.com/2007/10/post-ripple-yarn-ends.html">Rowan Ripple</a>, but couldn't find just the right yarn. Along came <a href="http://www.knitpicks.com/cfyarns/yarn_display.cfm?ID=5420132">Knitpicks Palette</a>, originally purchased for a finicky colorwork purse. At around 2 dollars a substantial skein, this fingering weight yarn comes in an insane range of saturated colors and is a fabulous bargain. I'm using a size E Clover crochet hook with ergonomic handle, and the whole experience is delightful--the yarn isn't splitty, but moves along the hook with speed and ease and shows the swoops and peaks of the ripple pattern very nicely. I'm in deep like with Palette, I can tell you. And I'm really happy with the crazy color combo of this blanket. All in all, a satisfying project.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668884398846525478.post-66003065035079163152010-01-20T11:22:00.002-06:002010-01-20T11:27:25.845-06:00Baby Blanket Ripple Beginning<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglXiD3hrbMKfqjUlANuxIsSuPvdIw4AhV3YiAm73_JcCynvRbLJGu9gYGf7n3oDdWOxSiE7FGkQMc8iP-AhPm99ImlVN4CGTZZ4BK1LgciId8vvxrU1shzlZk7jpd3rkUfLmYyeU8e_3g/s1600-h/IMG_2665.JPG"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglXiD3hrbMKfqjUlANuxIsSuPvdIw4AhV3YiAm73_JcCynvRbLJGu9gYGf7n3oDdWOxSiE7FGkQMc8iP-AhPm99ImlVN4CGTZZ4BK1LgciId8vvxrU1shzlZk7jpd3rkUfLmYyeU8e_3g/s320/IMG_2665.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428874901226182754" /></a><br />I have started a new ripple for the new addition to our family that is to take place in October of this year. It is a granny ripple and I am using Simply Soft for the yarn in the Brites of Watermelon, Mango, Lemonade, Blue Mint and Limelight. Of course each color is separated with Coconut. I have only begun so all the colors are not visible yet but I will post another photo when I have a bit more done.Ghosthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17254230247766501963noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668884398846525478.post-76945798541021527612010-01-14T07:59:00.003-06:002010-01-14T08:04:37.662-06:00winter-red<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMuFtj9YwOHvL_guysWsaA9pBa5xsvm8ZzOjZr53cYFyeXaJCFYD1Y1UCiHkD1SnIaR8tSDg25aynJxmSbH283a014zmVCCDH1R7rY6ZAo_KtVaG-0I6qY2kcO2Om08qO2ZAhmWTKRmGc7/s1600-h/DSCF9109.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMuFtj9YwOHvL_guysWsaA9pBa5xsvm8ZzOjZr53cYFyeXaJCFYD1Y1UCiHkD1SnIaR8tSDg25aynJxmSbH283a014zmVCCDH1R7rY6ZAo_KtVaG-0I6qY2kcO2Om08qO2ZAhmWTKRmGc7/s400/DSCF9109.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426595536725255042" /></a><br />I stardet a ripple again...just couln't help myself!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimf5pjRD3Uj8VAs8az9roedJisTuFc-RcfBXrCOf16olTVlHgYifV2ZGnrurWoDP7bwy6kkED603MbgGkiNiLvU8vCNDh5RXCaGH13tY6O6nLZ_7KsknN-pSvIa0nGVb4VXrjxN6jN4D44/s1600-h/DSCF9110.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimf5pjRD3Uj8VAs8az9roedJisTuFc-RcfBXrCOf16olTVlHgYifV2ZGnrurWoDP7bwy6kkED603MbgGkiNiLvU8vCNDh5RXCaGH13tY6O6nLZ_7KsknN-pSvIa0nGVb4VXrjxN6jN4D44/s400/DSCF9110.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426594966600734546" /></a><br />It's a acryl yarn from "wibra"shop, only one euro per 100 gram and I made all my other ripples from the same yarn.
