New round ripple for Leah

I started this ripple last week for my friend, Leah, who is fighting breast cancer. She is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. My other friend, Steph, and I accompanied Leah to her last chemo session and we brought along our knitting and crocheting projects. I was able to get one hat done for her while we were there (almost 2 but had to rip it out ARGH!) and noticed how cold she got. The cancer center gives everyone a blanket to bring to their chemo treatments but since the hat and scarf set I made for her was in Steelers colors, I decided to make her this afghan to match. While I was crocheting away on that hat, the nurses told Leah to ask if I'd be interested in donating to their "hat tree" and, of course, I agreed. Their hat tree stands in a hall and it's a where people pin hats they've made and the hats are free to anyone who wishes to take one. While it's warming up here in Las Vegas, Leah tells me her head still gets really cold, especially at night, so I'll be sure to bring one or more every week when I'm there with her.

Ripple Cardie

There I was, working away on my Chevron Lace Cardigan when it (finally!) occurred to me that I was, in fact, crocheting a ripple.

If you like the look of this pattern, it's free (see link above) and there's a crochet-a-long going on over at Ravelry. It's been running a while now but a couple of people have just started, so you wouldn't be the only new kid on the block.

I've got one and a bit sleeves to go, a wash, a block and then find a nice pin to fasten it with. Can't wait to wear it! Just please don't ask how my ripple afghan is coming along. ;-)

Addicted to rippling

At least I was with the first afghan I made. I had been reading this blog for awhile before attempting to learn the ripple stitch. I was intimidated after reading some blankets took months to make. I'm more of an immediate gratification kind of gal.

I found the simple directions right here -- double crochet with increases and decreases of 3 for the peaks and valleys.

I've decided my dh is officially the color-picker- outer. He bought these yarns for me for Christmas. Finished blanket works great in both our living room and bedroom.

No fear, once I got started I couldn't stop and finished this blanket in 10 days -- much to the chagrin of everyone else in my family, even though they now all fight over it. Here's my youngest asleep under it and Alice on top.

Well Hello there...this is my first post to this blog of lovely rippleyness and it is also my chance to show you the beginnings of my first ripple using this pattern...its very exciting I tell you...I am using the most beautiful Sublime yarn to make this wee rug for an up coming baby pressie. 1st I want to say that i am so excited in joining this list. 2 of my favorite blankets I made my youngest daughter 18years ago were granny ripples and I still use them today. One was white and two shades of blues and my absolute favorite is the white black and grey. I love how that one turned out and will snap up a pic as soon as I can remember and share with you all.

My name is DeeDee and I came across your wonderful group by browsing yarnydays blogspot. Wow how wonderful and so very busy, when do you find time for your studies? :-)

I am 47 and have three daughter, Nina is 28, Kim is 25 and Bonnie is 17. I am married to Kurt and he is the most precious gift I could have received (other than my girls) and I cant imagine life without him, so I don't. I take care of two small children ages 2 and 3 during the week and once a month I get my sister grandbabies (who called me Granny since she lives in VA and I live near them here in Texas). Their visit was yesterday and I get them again for spring break starting next weekend. LOL A glutton for punishment.

My Aunt taught me how to crochet backwards, I am a lefty and I do so wish knitting could be taught that way. My two oldest knit as did my Grandmommie and my Aunt. Together as a family we all also sew, crochet, love to cook, draw (my oldest is an interior designer) and create just about anything. We will try anything once and if someone says we cant then we do all we can to show them we can. Not sure if that is the English in us or the Indian. LOL

I have a large grouping of pets, 3 grandpups (Copper is Nina's, Roo is Kim's (shes a RN in training) and Pearle is Bonnie's. Then there is Trixie the outside pup that adopted us after her parents dropped her off. Such a cutie! Then we have a cat Meowsers is her name, killing mice for presents and teasing the pups is her game! LOL Last but not least Bonnie and I and two rats. Daisy is mine and Marcineaux is hers. Was rather gross at first them they grew on me and I love the rattie finger kisses they give me.

Well I guess that is about it. I love to crochet and I collect yarn, fabric and patterns. I like to think of myself as old fashioned because this new woman is a little too independent for my tastes. I have been crocheting baby gifts, wearables and barbie items lately.

a few more ripples

A few more ripples added, raspberry, quarry and honey, these last three colours have really changed the tone and I'm really starting to like the effect, I was worried whilst on the green ripple that it wasn't really working.  Thank you for the lovely comments, I will post again when I have a few more ripples to share, in the meantime I will be posting entries onto my blog Joshy and Belle - http://joshyandbelle.blogspot.com

A completed 12-point round ripple

I comleted this in around 3 nights of crocheting as a birthday gift for my best friend - she loves the colour yellow - I wanted to make it all the light lemony colour but ran out of stash so added the bright yellow around the outside.

I think it still looks nice.

my first ripple

Hello everyone, here is my first ripple so far! I've just started on the blue row. I'm using the soft waves pattern, which took me quite a while to figure out as I was decreasing into one chain, don't ask me why I thought that!!! 

Thanks to everyone who has posted on this blog I've been drooling over the lovely ripples thinking I wish I could do that for so long, until finally I asked for the books for Christmas and just jumped right in, I'm glad I did!

I'm using Rowan Pure Wool in quite a few colours but all the same sort of tone, if that makes sense, and I chained 423 to fit on our kingsize bed. I'll post more photos here and on my blog (http://joshyandbelle.blogspot.com) as I do more.

finnished project in the Netherlands, mama Lieveheersbeestje.

It's finaly finnished! After about three months I finaly finnished this blanket...

The collor-scheme was designed by myself and I crochet ripples at the sides too..

An the blanket was used befóre it could be washed! It is crochet with cheap acryl, but very good washable, so easy to use and soft.

First Ripple

This blanket was based on a scarf that I meant to make. The entire project took me about nine or ten months, I think. I had lots of other projects going at the same time, so it dragged for a while.


Yarn: Ella Rae Classic
Pattern: Chevron blanket from Vintage Crochet

Notes: Chained 144. Next time I will go bigger! This would have been a nice size for a baby, I think. Luckily, I have a small dog who is willing to put the blanket to good use, but my kids are definitely too big to use it for TV time.

Matching scarf and handwarmer set

I finished the matching scarf (to my ripple handwarmers), about a hour before my friend arrived from the airport on Christmas eve.

The New Year Ripple progresses... a bit

Time for my annual update on the progress of my New Year Ripple. It's been 2 years since I started this afghan and here's how far I've gotten:

Not terribly good, is it? But 2009 is the year I've resolved to "Finish It or Frog It". This one is definitely not a frogger so I'd better get my finger out and finish it!

These are for you, EmmaApple. I appreciate that you explained to me in your comments section, how to make these rippled wrist/hand warmers. I made these 14 rows long because my hubby wants extra coverage for his wrists while birdwatching with binoculars.

The best part is that they worked up quickly and easily! I hope to make more soon.

It's finished! Hooray!!!

This is the completed ripple for my niece's Christmas gift. It's made with Caron Eco Soft (WalMart replaced Simply Soft with this and it feels about the same, plus it is made from recycled soda bottles). The colors are soft mint (which isn't minty at all), twig, and chocolate. Other than the twig part, the colors sound tasty, don't they? It finished out to about 38 inches by 48 inches.

I only seem to be able to complete one ripple afghan a year and here is this year's. I made this for my dh, who wanted a lapghan. It came out approximately 41"x48". I used 7 different colors of Caron Simply Soft. I chose colors at random for the first color repeat, and then used that pattern 4 more times to complete the afghan. He used it this morning and pronounced it perfect, so I am a happy camper!

Scarf WIP

One more ripple for today, this one is a work in process. A neon pink and gray ripple scarf for me.


It's not quite finished because I ran out of wool on the last 2 rows but it will be soon I hope. I need it badly, its getting very very very cold in old NYC.

Ripple Gloves

Hi, just thought I would show all you lovely ripplers the fingerless ripple gloves I made up for my friend Zoe for Christmas.


Made from 3 colours of Cascade 220, worsted and a 4.25mm hook, I basically just did a 32 (+2) chain swatch of Susan B.'s Ripple pattern (link on the sidebar), and sewed up the sides leaving a hole for the thumb. They were really quick too, I finished both in one night.


They turned out ok I think. I am going to make a matching ripple scarf to go with them.
