help!

I just started "soft waves" from the Eaton book, and at the start of row two, it says "ch3, 1dc into same st"... what same st? the one at the end of the first row? the last of the ch3? help!

Hello, everyone!

Hello! I am new around here, but I have been lurking for quite some time. Now that I have been officially made part of the group, I thought I would share my two ripple afghans. The first one is in off-white, medium green, and dark forest green for my 10 year old son to use on his bed. This is a closeup of the edge. It shows the colors a little bit better. This one was made with Susan B's easy pattern with two strands of worsted yarn held together throughout and a size N hook. The yarns were various cheap-o stuff that I could find at Wal-Mart, nothing fancy, but the blanket turned out warm and soft anyway. My kiddo loves it and won't sleep without it, even in summertime.
This is a scrap one that I made as a chair throw. We always seem to need blankets and such to lay under. I used scraps of various and sundry left overs with black ripples between. The black yarn is the only yarn I bought for this purpose. It is Red Heart Super Saver in the gigantic skein. I finished it off with black tassels at the points on both ends. I only wish it had been a bit wider. Live and learn!

Susan B Question!

HELLLLP!! I am starting my second ripple and chose the Susan B's Easy Ripple again. Last time I made it in the narrow size, this time I chose to chain 178 to make the larger one. However, when I reached the end of the chain I ended with a dip instead of a peak as my last "dooey". So, when the instructions say for the second row to skip one, chain seven, three dc in next chain, I don't have that as an option because I'm beginning on a down-stroke. Anyone know how to adjust this so that I don't have to unravel my first row and part of the chain or something? Thanks for any tips!!

First foray...

I just learnt to crochet a few weeks ago, and am starting a ripple scarf. Had to frog the first few tries but then seemed to get better.

Let me know what you think of the colours.

Whoops, I did it again!

Another ripple in the works. All wool this time (unlike the last one which was all cotton), and in bright rainbow colours. I tried for a random colour placememt, but last night just had to frog it. I have learnt enough about myself to know that random is not my friend. A gentle graduated change between colours is, however, the way to my heart.


Let's hope this one is a little quicker than the last!

Hopefully my stepping in will be a seamless thing. Just like you all here, I LOVE ripples. So much so that I have another one to show you.

Today I finished another blanket for Project Little Lambs. This one is just like the blues and greens one I previously shared, that being, the pattern warm waves from the 200 Ripple Stitches book. Again, a chain of 120 to start.

At first I just started crocheting in colors that I thought looked nice together, but then decided to do a series of repeating patterns. I think it looks nice, so much so that it will be hard to part with this one. It has a lot of loving energy in it.

I really really don't need another ripple blanket, but I couldn't help myself. This one is crazy bright, and all wool - unlike the all cotton blues and greens of the last one. I really hope that this cures me for a while - I'm getting RSI!

Mystery Project

Hi all, its been awhile since I've had anything to post. I have started this "mystery project" for one of my friends who is having a baby. When I get further along on my project, I won't be able to report any more on it till the end, which I am hoping will go fairly fast, so that my friend won't know EXACTLY what I am making. Although I know these photos might give her a partial idea:

What I CAN report is that the yarn being used (so far) is Bernat Softee Baby in "Pale Blue" and "Funny Prints". If I like the finished project, I will also be making a couple more for some of my co-workers who are soon-to-be first time Grandma's, and maybe even a couple more for my new "Grand-twins" (pictured below)! So far, it has been a fun crochet project.

And the magic number is...

3!

Here's my progress on the Noah's Ark ripple. I know. It doesn't look too exciting yet. But it will.

Why is the magic number 3? Everything on this ripple is done in threes. From the number of stitches between peaks to the number of half doubles used to create the decrease, it's all threes. Plus, I have three of these to make. I bet I'm sick of the pattern by then.

Would it be crazy to take a break from the ripple and start the add ons?

Noah's Ark

Here's my new ripple. I'm still working on the one for my daughter. But several people in my life are having babies, so I need to come up with some baby blankets quickly. This pattern was too cute to pass up.

I've substituted the cotton recommended for Caron Simply Soft. I couldn't get the cotton at my local Wal-Mart and I didn't want to go to the nearest LYS or Hobby Lobby. That's an hour away. But I think the substitution will work just fine.

Too cute, don't you think?


I'll post pictures when I'm a little further along.

first ripple project for me this year

For me, 2007 was the year of the ripple. 2008 may be the year of the hexagon blanket for me (so far 2 under my belt), but I needed to touch back into the ripple vibe.

I have a goal of making as many afghans as I can for Project Little Lambs. It will give me an excuse to continue my afghan/blanket crazed ways and an outlet for some of my stash. Beyond that it is a nice way to try out techniques that I may not like for a big project but are cool for a baby/child-sized one.

Here is what I have so far for my 2nd donation. This is a knitted ripple using the pattern Easy Ripple Baby Blanket.



I am using some discontinued Encore Colorspun DK from my stash. CO 142 stitches (34 stitch repeat + 6). Only 3 pattern lines, pretty mindless once I got past the fact that I couldn't keep count of where I was based on where the cast-on tail was. What is really nice is this pattern is totally reversible.

Baby Blanket

I am making this blanket for my cousin's newborn (her first). I am using a Waves pattern, I believe. I will post a link to the pattern when I find it. I am using Caron Simply Soft in off white and soft green. It's off a stitch... not sure how that happened, but by the time I noticed it I was so far along that I decided to keep going that way. I wanted it to be a light blanket, so the stitches are loose.

What do you think is a nice size for a baby blanket? This one is approx. 36" wide... that's with horizontal stripes. I could also turn it so the stripes are vertical, but I'm not sure how that would look. The bottom and top (with hor. stripes) are flat and edges are scalloped. I don't know how it would look with a scalloped top/bottom and straight sides. Hm. What do you think?

I work on it as I get time to and I was able to get to work on it again last weekend.

New ripple on the hook

Well, I just finished my log cabin afghan. You can check that out here.

Now, I'm going to begin a new ripple for my daughter. I'll be using RHSS in Plum Pudding (See above) and some purple that I had in my stash that I feel coordinates much better than the current purple RH is producing. I'm using stitch pattern number 24 from Jan Eaton's 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns. I'm attempting to mimic a ripple that was made for me when I was a baby.

I'm so excited to begin this. I've been forcing myself to wait until I finished the log cabin. You know, exchanging one UFO for another. I'll post pics once I get far enough to show the colors and the stitch pattern.

This is a little baby ripple I was making as a gift for a friend. I used a 4 mm hook and 4ply yarn, and it took what felt like FOREVER to get finished. It is really lovely and lightweight though, while also being surprisingly warm, so I guess it was worth it. She doesn't know the sex of the baby, so I went for fairly neutral colours. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.

My Progress & Where Is Everyone??

My ripple is getting bigger.... It's almost finished! I need to get back to it, I've been working on other crochet projects, thats why it's not done yet.

I'm disappointed that hardly anyone ever posts pics of their work here anymore.... Has all the rippling finally come to an end?? lol. I really enjoyed coming here daily and seeing everyones progress or new ripple projects posted, I've been checking every now and then lately but it seems to be dead around here.... I thought with all the cold weather the Midwest has been having this past month there would be more people spending more time crocheting and on the computer but I guess not... So come out come out where ever you are rippling members. lol.
