Christmas ripple-first repeat

Yes I did start a Christmas ripple. I plan on making a few for gifts so thought I might need to start now. I scoured the stores for holiday yarn and well....there is none. The lady in the yarn department at Walmart said the holiday yarns come in around September. So I got the multicolor red-white-green on Ebay and bought solid red and green Caron Perfect Match locally.

The red stripe in the photo looks a little orange, but it is not. Will post the finished product.

My ripple along has gone awry. Can anyone help. My pattern is off I want the soft waves but I know this isn't looking right. Now I should probably mention I learned to crochet while watching my son's basketball game. And only after seeing this joining this blog. You have inspired me. My daughter is leaving for college and I am having a maternal breakdown I am not sure what else to call it. so I found this incredibly soft yarn



and matched it to her very happy room and searched to find someone to teach me to crochet. I won't rest until I know that when she is off in that strange country (dorm life) she will have this blanket to wrap her self up in and feel close to home. (Me stomping my foot.) now it's doing something wrong...it's not me of course... (similar obsession to that pregnancy nesting stuff)

questions questions....

In the current questioning spirit that seems to be with us today I was wondering what is the biggest hook that anyone has used to make a ripple. I am loving my current blanket, but with a 4.5mm hook and dk yarn (as well as 240 chains) I am definitely in it for the long haul. I feel the need for some relatively instant gratification. Also, what is the thickest yarn anyone has gone for? (as a brit, I am a little hazy on the US nomenclature, but I will do my best!).

cotton classic ripple

Has any one seen or made a ripple using tahki cotton classic? I did a google search but all I found were people who were thinking about it. I'm wondering what hook size, pattern and how much yarn it would take ,as well as how long it took. It's pretty small guage wise. I think I use a 6 or 7 when I knit with it.

Help with Susan B's Easy Ripple Pattern!

Hi all- I'm knew to crochet. I've tried several times over the last few years to learn, but always ended up frustrated - not able to read the patterns. I decided to call it quits until I stumbled onto this website and was inspired by all the beautiful ripples. I pulled out yarn from my stash of incomplete (knitting and crochet projects) and am raring to go.

I have a question for all of you that have used the easy ripple pattern. When you get to the end of the chain/row do you complete six dc before you dec2? I chained 178 and when I got to the end of the chain I dc 6 then 3 dc in next chain and then decreased the last 2 stitches. Does that sound right?

This is my second attempt, I ripped out my first because after the 3rd color change my rows weren't lining up. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

loomed ripple? - treasure hunt

While looking for patterns for my kniffy knitter loom I stumbled across this blog, and a ripple!

A ripple done on a knitting loom... how cool is that! She's still writing up the pattern, but it will soon be available. There are a few more pictures on her blog, and another made with just 1 color. It looks so fun... I have to do this!

New ripple started & another planned

Well I couldn't wait too long before I started a new ripple blanket. I'm using Jan Eaton's Soft waves pattern again, I like the flow of it.

Don't know how big this one will be, I'm using up more of my stash & don't want to buy more yarn.

It's about 90 cm wide, so only time will tell how long it will be, it's a present for a family member.

I haven't started it yet, I will when I've finished the black/red ripple.

A Camo Round Ripple

Hi All!
I've been following this blog for quite a while and finally decided to take the plunge. This round ripple is for my youngest son. It's not done yet, he wants it big. I thought about redoing the center as it's a bit loose, but I've decided it's ok as is...does that make me lazy? LOL. Anyway, I love everyone's ripples...What great inspiration!!

New Rippler

I kept coming back to this site just to drool and then finally decided that I must have a blanket for my very own. Here's a photo of the blanket as of this afternoon (the fuchsia edge is the working edge). I'm using a bunch of worsted weight wools and acrylics and I think I may need a few more colors, but then I'm just going to repeat colors until I run out of yarn. The one stripe I'm not a fan of is the deep green in the middle. I used a chunky weight acrylic thinking it wouldn't really matter and it just looks so bulky. I didn't have the heart to rip it out, though.

I love ripples! I want to make a dozen of these blankets. I will, when I have enough money. It's summer and hot, but I can't wait for the temperatures to fall again so I can cuddle under this growing beast.

HELP!!

Ripple is growing. I just laid out my first ripple to measure it and discovered it's growing. Very slightly but it is growing. The row I just finished is almost 2 inches longer then my first row. It's turning into a strange non rectangular shape. It's not very obvious unless you really get it laid out that's whay I hadn't noticed. I'm going to take it apart and start all over. I'm so sad!! I don't want to make the same error again. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I thought I had that darn soft waves figured out. I can't believe I have to take it apart..

I've STARTED! Finally!

I think the pattern is #179 from Jan Eaton's book (Old Shale), but the link to the post with photo is here. I started because it's one of the most meditative knits I know, and I needed the calming influence. The colors work in my living room beautifully - and this will be throw-sized, not bed-sized!

Ripple Cushion Finished

It's done and I'm in love with it! What do you think of the pompoms!! I adore them and was so pleased with myself finding a way to use up those remnants of wool that were left after finishing the cushion.

...with my first ripple so far. I'm more than satisfied with this one. I was in a 'party-mood' all day after finishing this :-).


Facts:

• It measures 140 cm X 160 cm
• Yarn used: 'Bali' from GGH - a soft cotton/acrylic blend, about 18 balls
  
• Needle used: nr. 3½ or E

This will NOT be the last one. I think I've got a new habit - a good one :-).
But I already miss making the blanket...and the cure must be to make a new one.
So that's what I do. I have found/bought the yarn - the colors are a bit different than these ones:


I love them! This yarn is thinner than I'm used to - so I will have to use a small needle. But it's ok. I will make use the pattern called 'soft waves' from the Jan Eaton book. And I will start today :-).

My Ripple Mat

Hey ripplers, wanted to let you see my first ripple. I've been watching and lurking here for a couple of months, the anticipation of my own ripple building....

I decided to go small to start with, so a mat in Sugar & Cream 100% cotton was started...

This was to help me decide if I wanted to start a larger project, because, to tell the truth, the idea of a cotton blanket really appeals to me....

Had to run to the store to pick up 2 colors for the mat, and look what I found:

Thanks everyone for your help- I was definately not decreasing correctly!
Now I just need swatch again to decide if I should move up a hook size so the fabric will be drapier... that and await the arrival of the rest of my yarn! (Pretty much every color of Cascade 220 Superwash that WEBS had on sale)
I've seriously been obsessed with you guys' ripples for MONTHS now, and I'm glad I'll finally get to join in :)

So, I just looked up the dc2tog on nexstitch.com and I was leaving out a huge chunk of the process. I was basically doing this: YO, draw through 1 loop, then drawing through 3 loops. (twice)

Okay, Ripplers. I took some close-ups of my doomed ripple and marked the increases with pink markers and the decreases with aqua markers. Take a look-see and see if you can figure out what I'm doing wrong- in other words, why the *&%^$$#* is my ripple curving? (I'm using the Soft Waves pattern)

Changes, they are a comin!

Hey All!

Just a note to state the obvious...the site revamp is kicking in to high gear! I've made some preliminary changes, so do me a favor and check the new sidebar features out for me before I spend loads of time entering all the bio info, patterns, online links. The labels are, for now, gone...need to figure out how to make them useful. I think we really need to try to stick with labeling only with your name "tag" so folks can search by person to find their various projects and the details. With 200+ ripplers, additional labels for fiber type, pattern type, yada makes the list quite daunting.

Let me know what you think, or what you'd like to see, or what you think could be done better.

returned from hiatus

Hello Fellow Ripplers!
I haven't posted in a very long time here, as I didn't have anything new in the works, ripple-wise. The baby blanket turned out great, and was well received too! The new mommy's grandmothers were also adept with the hook and made some precious layettes as well.
Here's a pic of the finished blankie, just to remind one:I decided to make a bigger throw for a friend who is getting married soon, with two rows of DC's in each color, with my favorite gorgeous L hook(made of tiger wood in vietnam):All the yarn is from my stash, washable acrylic and other fibers--lots of red heart soft, mixed with more scratchy red heart cheap, then some fuzzy stuff and yarn from a recycled sweater, and some lion suede (which I normally hate the feel of, but was 99c at a discount store! 6 bucks off!). I am trying to keep all the color values in the same family, no lighter colors or pastels, and it's turning out really well so far. I think there are about 17 different colors:Enjoy!

Don't mind how I look, it was 7 am :( And I finally got a picture of it flat when my daughter Shade felt like getting off of it! :) It came out to be 70 inches from tip to tip. I used 6 skeins of RH Buff and 3 skeins of fun fur! I already have another one planned out but right now I need to get some small projects done to get my motivation back up!! Hope everybody ahs a great day.
