The Prerogative of All Ripplers

After agonizing over whether to use blue...

...or chocolate brown as the oddball stripe in my new ripple,
I finally chose green.
This green doesn't photograph well. It's actually quite a bit yellower than it appears here - more of a slime green, in fact. I am constantly amazed at how much yarn these afghans take. As a previously-non-crocheter, am I just unaware how little you get from one ball of yarn? Or do they really gobble yarn??
And I think I am finally running out of rippling steam. It's been an obsession for two months but my stamina is failing me :(

Ripple II : Son of Ripple

Did any of you guys go through a period of mourning when your ripple was finished? I couldn't stop thinking about rippling. I kept finding myself imagining crocheting the next row.Then I would remember that it was All Over and feel sad. I had serious Crochet Angst. So, meet S.O.P. - Son of Ripple...
After several weeks of grooving on hot pink and red together (a la the edging on my first ripple), I knew that was where this one had to go. Pink to red and then maybe (haven't decided yet) a row of chocolate brown or periwinkle blue. I plan to make little red pom poms to attach to the points of each edge. I love red pom poms nearly as much as red ric rac and red buttons!
I wonder how far I'll get through this one before I start dreaming of Ripple III : The Next Generation??

Yee Ha!!!! Finished!!!!!!!

I can hardly tell you how excited I am to have finished this, my first big crochet project! I've learned SO much - how to read a pattern (if it's really basic!), that I love love love beautiful yarns in natural fibres (the nicest one I found was an alpaca/merino blend - heavenly soft and light. I'd also love to try cotton and silk.) and that it's really hard to keep going on Project One when you have started dreaming about Project Two!
I was so excited about sharing photos with you that I didn't straighten the ripple properly before I took the photo and couldn't wait for daylight, so these are horrible flashed shots (the greens that look like avocado in this shot are really lime and the darkest colours are navy and chocolate)...


... don't care - I'm in love :D

Especially with the edging. It took me quite a few attempts to get this to look the way I wanted it to, but the crocheting/frogging/crocheting/frogging cycle was worth it in the end. I love the hot pink/red combo and the scallops.

Thanks to everyone who is participating in this Ripple Along!! You have all been so inspiring and your beautiful afghans have kept me crocheting when I started to run out of steam. Thank you, thank you!!
Now it's back to quilts and my somewhat neglected blog :)

Now Look What You've Started...

Is it too much to say that rippling has changed my life?! I used to do things - y'know like sleeping, talking to people, laundry, dishes. Now all I do is crochet. This is me on March 27...

I had problems. I saw all the cool ripples everyone else was making. I can't tell you how badly I wanted to play too. It took three days and a ...um..huge amount of swearing before I got to here...

And you should see me now!!! My hands ache, I have pains in my forearms and my house is a mess but I am in love - look at this...
The only thing I seem to have kept up with is feeding my kids and writing my blog. Who cares? Now I'm planning my next ripple!
