New Rippler

Thank you for the invitation. I happy to be crocheting again. It's been a long time since I tried a ripple. I'm glad I started it, and with daughter #3's (Paula) for now. I had acquired some balls of yarn from a relative and thought I'd just use the random colors. It will be a little boys first real bed blanket or a cat throw. I will end up having to buy some other colors to finish it, but I really like rippling now and have visions of dozens of other projects in fabulous colors.

This is the first time I've been able to handle a crochet project after my mastectomy without my chest, arms and hands cramping up. I even went to knitting for awhile (just some simple scarves) just to keep my hands going. I like crocheting and usually always had a project going.

It feels good.

Hi I'm Tawana

I'm new to ripple along, in the sense that this is my first time posting but I have been lurking and leaving comments. All the different Ripples are so beautiful. I have been patiently waiting to be able to post, but since then I had done alot with my Ripple.

This was it a couple of weeks ago.(Oops, this was it before I frogged it because the cast on edge was too tight, I changed the order of some of the colors.) This is it several days ago:

Currently I am into the 3rd set of 4 repeats of the repeating color. This is going to be a baby carriage blanket. Well I am off to ripple some more and plan my next afghan.

Finished One and Starting Another

I finished my first ripple and I've started a second. I have mixed feelings about the color in the first, which I wanted to use in my bedroom. I count this afghan as a learning experience.
Here are the specifics for it:

Susan B's Easy Ripple Afghan pattern
Caron Simply Soft yarn
Size I needle
Picked up one yarn in stitches so it would create the line (hope that makes sense)
Edged all the way around with one row double crochet
40x54

For this second one I am using the same pattern with these specifics:

Same pattern
Same yarn, more colors ( hope to buy a few more than what is pictured)
Using smaller hook--H
Catching both yarns for each stitch for a tighter weave.

Jane of Yarnstorm ripple is my inspiration for this one. The picture of hers is on the right. Thank you, Jane! I love your multicolors. I'm studying your picture to see what I need to add.

I shared more on my thoughts about these on my own blog today. I also shared a granny afghan that my mother made that is ever so precious to me. I would love for all you crocheters to see it.

I love, love, love seeing each and every one of your works of art, fellow ripplers!

Warmly,
Lallee

A dish of delish!

When I finished row 4 today, I was reminded of ice cream - it seems the colours I've chosen so far resemble cotton candy (one of th best ice cream flavours, I may add). I had a sudden brainstorm - take a photo of progress thus far that looks like an ice cream sundae!

Slight problem - I don't have an ice cream bowl. So I settled on a cloche that I received in a swap. Imagine the crochet hook is a big fat ice cream spoon!

WIP: Ripple-Along -> 2nd colour done!

I attempted to use the stripe generator to plan out my ripple afghan, but discovered that I wasn't content with the way things looked. With that said, I'm taking a more random approach, and using various yarns I have tucked away in my bin. I want to be a bit spontaneous, but at the same time cringe at the thought of Linkhaving an ugly afghan! I will have to trust my power of choice at the time. And I'm using a blend between SusanB's pattern, and one I found on flickr (5 stitches instead of 6 mean more wave than peak).

I hear some interesting noises coming from the kitchen... must go check that out!

Hello Ripplers

I am thrilled to be a part of this rippling phenomenon! Thank you for including me! I began my ripple lap afghan last weekend. This year is the first time I have crocheted in years and I feel like I have discovered an old friend. I live in a small town with limited shopping so I resorted to getting my yarn at Wal-mart. I had zero stash. I was too impatient to wait for better shopping. Due to color choices I chose colors that would go in my bedroom. After the afghan was started I wasn't liking just how pastel and baby blanket looking it was. I added the two blues and the warm green. That helped some. I like the colors in person better than in the pictures.

I am using Susan B's Easy Ripple Afghan pattern. I have found it very easy, which is good for a rusty crocheter. I do have to do some frogging every now and then. Note to self~don't trust your counting when you are too tired. All my yarn except for 2 skeins are the Caron Simply Soft. I am surprised at how nice it feels for the price. When this afghan is finished I'm going to have to do another one with some bright colors. I am loving some of the ones I've seen others of you doing. Please come visit me at Lallee's Cottage sometime.

Warmest regards,
Lallee

not much

to show you, since i've been sick this last week, which cut on my craft time. and, i've been pretty obsessed with my granny bag, so the ripples were left aside for a while. I did get back to it, since our rift is now past us, and here are some photos to show you:

This last one was at the moment of our rift. Now, I've added two rows of brown and two of green.

Two more of caramel to come. That's it folks. It's a big blanket, since hubby is both over 6' tall and a cover hogger! It takes me about an hour for each row, so it's slow going. Bye now

PS: This is a response to the comments, and seen as how it really fits as a post, I thought i'd put it here.

i had to do the border to cover all the mistakes from doing a few rounds of sl st without counting stitches... i cannot follow recipes, so i don't even bother anymore, but sometimes i get in these scrapes. fortunately, i'm creative enough to get out of them most of the times. and when i'm not, hubby comes to the rescue... which is why he deserves a blanket that actually covers all of him... poor thing, always has his feet bare in the middle of the night, in cold weather.
I don't know about the yarn though. it's two-toned, with some you could call lint all over it... i'll try to get a picture of the next skein to show you... as i'm basing the colour scheme from a portrait by van gogh (more info on my blog) and the blue is the main colour in the portrait, it should play a big role in the blanket. but there are at least three tones of blue in there, and i couldn't find anything that really worked with the portrait and with the other yarn, until the shop girl showed me that one. it was a perfect fit.
as for the granny blanket, i have it on hold, seen as how yarn is rather expensive in great amounts, and money is a bit tight around here, after my splurge on yarn this month... but i'm almost done with my granny bag!

I'm preeety pod'd

The ripple blanket is stalled, simply because I’m pod with it. I made so many mistakes due to trying to balance the weights of different clashing colours, it messed everything up. I found a simple way to solve these problems, which didn’t result in ripping. So, all is well, but I’m giving our relationship some breathing room, or I might be sorely tempted to dispose of it in the most shredding way possible.
Btw, how can I join the flickr group? I couldn't find the join thingy in the discussion page...
And I know squat about french. I'm good for portuguese, spanish, some italian and some catalan, and english of course, but that's it...

another newbie

Hi there - I just started mine yesterday, after ripping out only once, I settled on a bit of a chevron, although I like the soft wave style better.

My mum gave me a big bag of baby yarns which I didn't know what to do with, so I have started a baby blanket which I'll give the the charity gift shop at the Children's Hospital. Here's one day's progress:

I have no idea where my colours are going and what type of pattern will emerge.

I was hesitant to start because I had stashed so well, I wasn't sure where all my little bits were, but isn't it funny that when you start looking, they seem to pop up all over the place?

Chocolate & Turquoise

I've been coerced into making an afghan for my teenage niece. My mother told said niece after she commented on how she wanted a blanket at the end of her bed like Grammie has because her feet get cold too that Auntie Jill loves to knit and maybe she'll make you a blanket for your bed. The next time my niece saw my Mum she said to her "I can't wait to get my blanket from Auntie Jill, I'm so excited!" And the requested colors were chocolate brown and turquoise. So, here I am in the Ripple A Long. I moaned and b*tched about having to drop everything and make this blanket but was so inspired by all of the ripple afghans I have seen over the last couple of weeks, I couldn't help but crochet one as well. You are evil temptresses and are probably in collusion with my mother!

I have to admit that it's nice to crochet and I haven't done any serious crocheting in a few years. I'm using Encore yarn in the worsted weight mainly because it's machine wash and dry and it's what I use when making things for my nieces and little siblings.

Progress so far...

Keep the inspiration coming, I need the motivation to continue to work on this!

new girl in town

I'm the new girl
Here are my ripples so far:

Day 7, With Ugly Doll

Ripple + Ugly Doll: Day 7

Progress Report

Today is Day 12 of working on the Ripple Blanket. I am close to being done soon. I think that I have 90% of the blanket done. I love crocheting in front of the tv because it covers my lap and legs and keeps me warm.

Day 6

Here's my progress as of last night. After a pretty ambitious start I'm sure I'll slow down as things get back to normal over here, but I'll keep stitching away.
Ripple, Day 6
I set a ripple photo as my desktop background and thought I'd share if you want it. Just click the thumbnail to download (about 180K).

"Gather ye Rosebuds"

OK, so admittedly this is not just stash!! This Ripple Blanket to be, is for my 10 year old, very discerning daughter, who was very particular about her colors. So we have bought some newer yarn to make the palette of her choice. This is the Knitpicks, DK merino, and it was very reasonable. This is also my first blog entry ever!! I cannot wait to begin the blanket. This blog has some incredible posts and has been very motivating.

I have been mostly a knitter for the last 5 years or so, but learned to crochet first as a child. So I have ordered my own copy of 200 Ripple Stitches and intend to use the "Soft Wave" pattern. I love the gentle meandering of the curves. So armed with an old metal hook, and our fun collection of yarn, I can't wait to begin. I will return when my blanket starts to assume some character. Please keep up all of the posts, you are all very inspiring!

And The Pendulum Swings!

I'm back to loving the colours.I'm back to loving the colours. Yup. Yesterday was a dud of a day at the end of a brutal week. Even though my love of the blanket never wavered, I'm definitely back to loving the colours after a wee break. I imagine I'll go back and forth lots of times as this project progresses, and that's one of the things I'm most looking forward to. Onward!

[Click the photo to get a better view.]

I've got my stash and I'm ready to start

Several months ago, I purchased the now infamous Ripple Stitch Patterns. I flipped through page after page trying to decide which pattern to make. They all looked so delicious that I could not decided. And then, the fiber spirits sent me to this Ripple-Along. Woweee! I have the yarn - all wool, a mixture of Patons, Cascades, recyled and redyed sweater (lower left), various smaller balls of handspun, handdyed. I have the pattern, soft waves. This pattern will be perfect for a baby blanket for afghans for Afghans. I can't wait to begin and to join everyone else on this journey.

Peace, Lisa

Stripes Only A Creator Could Love

I can't say I'm loving the colours at this point. That said, I totally love the blanket. If it ends up a soft, cozy pile of fug, so be it. I scrounged around and added a few more colours to my bag-o-yarn; these will either increase the fug or make the fug go away. I can't tell, and frankly I don't have the energy to scrutinize. I'm just going with it. It's the going with it that makes me most happy. Also, I really dig crocheting along with all you ripplers. Such fun!
Ripple, Day 4

Thursday, March 1, 2007

Okay, I'm on the band wagon now!

I just so happened upon this group of rippling crocheters and thought, "that's a good idea!"
I've only done one ripple afghan in all my crocheting years and it was a basic one. I think they all are, so I'll give myself a little more credit there ;-) It was my very first afghan, as a matter of fact, and it was from the good ole "I taught myself to crochet" book kit.
With news going around of another expecting cousin, i just have to get started on an afghan for this baby! It's going to be a boy, i hear so stash diving i went!
To my disappointment, i don't have very many boyish colors - i could use this as a reason to go to the LYS and go buck wild crazy, but i won't. I'll be happy with what i have this time and get a move on with this ripple!
I've chosen Bev's baby ripple afghan pattern. i found enough yarn to pull this one off.
And here are my colors...
They're all worsted weight but i think a few of them are red heart and (what's the one walmart used to carry?), a couple of them are caron. so, there's gray, yellow, green, sage, bone and, hunter. I'm not used to working with so much green, i'm excited to see how it'll turn out. with all of the support, encouragement, and eventual bragging rights, i'm sure to finish. Can't wait to say, "ah, it's just a little something i whipped up while participating in a ripple-along."

Day 3

Ripple, Day 3I'm still a-baby-steppin'. The second green (a different yarn than the first; I think it's Filatura Di Crosa Zara) and the brown (leftover Cascade 220) really change the look of the whole piece. I'm not sure I love it at the moment, but I'm very confident the next few colours will change things up again. I can't wait!

I started a Ripple-Along group on Flickr to be a companion to this blog (I hope you don't mind, Dawn!) -- if you like cruising lots of ripply photos, please join in!

Hi! - Greetings from London

Have been thinking about a Big Blanket Project for a while now on my blog. This is my first KAL and I'm chuffed to bits that I've found some ripple mates. All that remains is for me to learn how to crotchet! Will keep you all posted with my progress.
