My Ripple Mat

Hey ripplers, wanted to let you see my first ripple. I've been watching and lurking here for a couple of months, the anticipation of my own ripple building....

I decided to go small to start with, so a mat in Sugar & Cream 100% cotton was started...

This was to help me decide if I wanted to start a larger project, because, to tell the truth, the idea of a cotton blanket really appeals to me....

Had to run to the store to pick up 2 colors for the mat, and look what I found:

Yep, I'm in it for keeps now!!! Blankie here I come....

If it were me....
I would soak the test swatch in either vinegar or salt ..and water.. to help set the dye.
Because a few of the Peaches and Cream..and the Lion brand cottons.. bleed. :(

It tends to be dark blues and dark reds..so far here. But sorry to say I have not kept careful notes...knew I should...
I've only done dishcloths and pot holders till now.. a few look a fright ( variegated purple / red/ blue is the worst BTW)..
But now I've done a really nice tote bag.. so need to make sure I don't mess it up.

We need to do tests and maybe compare notes ? Think I'll do a few swatches .. soak.. then run thru the washer...along with a test no washed so compare shrinkage.
If anybody out there already has the notes...???? help...

Lol...see what happens when you ripple! I love the colors you've chosen.

I just had to say that I think you are brave. Although I love your ripple mat, I myself find it hard to make something that people are going to walk on. Oh well. Very cute though!

Such pretty colors, and I love the idea of a cotton blanket. I'm doing a granny-square blanket in acrylic myself, but I would like to work with cotton some day and your color choices are so inspiring. Good luck with your larger project

Very pretty. Did you put any rubber type stuff on the bottom for a non slip mat?

Thanks for the comments about my mat: I made it for drying dishes on! I got carried away while photographing it, and wanted to show how big it was--that's why my foot is in the picture! So it's just like a placemat that I will use for air-drying washed glasses and mugs on. I think it'll brighten up my kitchen :)
