I have my patterns picked....I am going to do the soft waves on page 19 of Jan Eaton's book and storm clouds on page 47. How do I know how much yarn I need? I want to go and get this today, so any help would be greatly appreciated. On the soft waves It just says 12+3 and on storm clouds it says 17+3. Both of these will be adult size blankets.
THanks for any help!

I am using about 100 oz. for a queen size blanket, 90" x 90". I looked at different afghan patterns to get an idea of how many oz. necessary per square inch of blanket (sorry, I'm good at math), but about 60 oz. for a throw, maybe 80 for a twin size blanket, 100 for a queen . . .HTH
oh, and i chained 300 for my queen size, a throw pattern I am looking at (it is a ripple in LA Crochet Collection book) calls for 199 chains, so maybe around 250 for a twin size . . .
I can get 4 stripes (2 rows each) out of a 100 gm hank of worsted weight 2-ply wool (~200 yds) for a 60" wide blanket that covers a twin bed with enough hang on the sides to reach the bedskirt. I don't know what all that is in oz. :) I chained either 183 or 195 to start.
