Baby Blanket

This is my first post... please be gentle.

I am making a baby blanket for my cousin's first child. She is due in April. We don't know the sex yet, so I have decided to go with a light green/off white combination. I am using Caron Simply Soft and the ribbed variation of SusanB's Easy Ripply Afghan.

This isn't my first ripple, but it's the first time I've used this pattern and I have a question. The bottom is "rolled" up... Will it stay that way? Hm. Anyway, I love the pattern! I just hope I finish on time. (I tend to get distracted and push projects to the side.)

Feedback welcome. :D

The one thing I can think of due to rolled edge is that your loops when you casted on were too tight. You may need to re-do the crochet chains and cast on loosely - then you will not have that rolling -

What Vanessa said. It won't get better, unrolling won't happen. You could do an edging/ruffle later though that might take care of it.

Nice colors!

Hey...thanks for this post! You're not going to believe this, but I'm trying to make my first baby blanket, too. I admire anyone who can crochet, though; I'm knitting mine on a loom my mother gave me for my birthday.
Caron Simply Soft yarn is fantastic, but you should try the "I Love this Yarn" brand at Hobby Lobby. It's very soft, but very sturdy.

Before you get much farther, you're going to have to frog the whole thing to fix the roll *sheds a tear for the pretty ripple*

Then, you're gonna want to do your chain row with a hook 2-3 times bigger than what you want to use for the rest of the blanket. It'll make a nice loose chain for you to work into, and prevent the rolling. :)

I just finished the same pattern and had the same problems with the curling. It does help to use a larger hook to make your chain, then switch to the smaller one on the first row. I just went up 1 size and still have a slight curl at the points but not enough to bother me. For a smaller blanket I'd probably frog and start over with a larger hook. Good luck with it!!! Looks like it will be gorgeous!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I have decided to frog it and start again... chaining with a larger hook. I have also decided to use a larger hook for the blanket itself. I was using a G and I'm thinking of trying an I hook. Maybe an H. I don't want it to be too lose and the G seemed to be taking forever. Hm. I'll try it and see, I guess. Thanks again!
