New Year Ripple Finished!

Deliberately timed to finish today (I worked the final round of the border this morning), here, at last, is the ripple afghan I started on 1 January 2007.

After my mother passed away in 2001 my dad sent me all her yarn (in 13 boxes!). I wanted to use some of it to make myself a small afghan to put over the back of my chair and snuggle up under on cold days. The Unger Roly-Sport was the only yarn there was enough of - everything else was just one or two balls. But I'm glad she had plenty of the Roly-Sport because it's so soft and squishy. I wonder what she meant to do with it? I hope she'd be pleased with my choice.

Happy 2010 everybody! May all your rippley dreams come true. :-)

The New Year Ripple progresses... a bit

Time for my annual update on the progress of my New Year Ripple. It's been 2 years since I started this afghan and here's how far I've gotten:

New Year Ripple 090101

Not terribly good, is it? But 2009 is the year I've resolved to "Finish It or Frog It". This one is definitely not a frogger so I'd better get my finger out and finish it!

Wishing you all a very productive 2009!

Happy 2008! - and an update

Warmest wishes to you all for a happy and healthy 2008!

Here's the ripple I started one year ago today:

Not much progress, I'm afraid, but as I explained in my first post, I had a lot of other crocheting to do last year. Then, of course, there's always Christmas, with its snowflakes* and Turkey Butts.
*Update Jan 9 - Hey, I just noticed that this link only takes you back to April '07 but I've got snowflake posts (some with pattern links) all the way back to December '06. Guess you'll have to trawl my archives for those.

Naturally, my Tinkle loves the afghan (any afghan). Isn't she sweet?!

Me too! Me too!

I'm joining in on the fun. I can't remember how I found this blog but I do remember I was immediately drooling over all the lovely rippliciousness!

For some inexplicable reason I caught the ripple bug last year. Must have seen a particularly pretty one and I was hooked (ahem). I didn't start one straight away, I just began complusively collecting ripple patterns in anticipation.

Then my dad decided to send me all my mom's stash (she died a few years back) - boxes and boxes of the stuff! It's still coming. Mostly odd balls of this and that but I did find enough Roly-Sport (lovely squishie stuff) in different colours to finally make my very own ripple afghan. I started it on New Year's Day - haven't progressed very far because I'm also using Mom's yarn to make scarves and hats for all the family and I'd like to get them all done this year.

The picture shows one complete repeat. It's a simple 5 up, 5 down, 5 at the points, worked in the back loop ripple. And I love it.
