happy to ripple with you
My book arrived yesterday; the one with the soft waves pattern. And I have crochet hooks, finally. Just need to find yarn so I can begin this ripple along that I've been jazzed about for weeks and weeks. Oh, and I need to learn to crochet, too. That's key, dontcha think? Have loved watching all your projects grow and lengthen and ripple along!

You are a brave soul, aren't you? :)
I got the 200 Ripple Patterns book yesterday (when I went to look for a ball of Red Heart pink worsted--I guess I spent I little more than I intended). It is scary, isn't it? My brain is whizzing around thinking "What next? What next?"
Seriously, though, if you haven't crocheted before, I really suggest that you find a ripple pattern for a worsted weight throw-sized afghan, and proceed. And don't get any fuzzy or fancy yarn that will be difficult to unravel--a nice worsted wool blend or acrylic is good to start with. Worsted cotton would be fine, too. The Ripple Patterns book is not for the beginning stitcher--it blows my mind a bit, and I've been crocheting for about 10 years. I hate working with anything that requires gauge, but I guess it's time I got over that, eh? :)
crocheting is the easy part . . .putting it down is the hard part . . .don't forget to eat and sleep
:-)
Good advice from Judy. A few of the patterns are pretty easy, the favorite Soft Waves being one and Gary's Ripple on p.99 is very basic. Finding a whole pattern with yarn, hook and finished size all done for you would be a blessing.
I am in the same boat as you! I am dying to start a soft waves afghan, yet I have never crocheted before! I'm curious to see what yarn you choose - I'm still trying to decide.
oh no, no fuzzy or fancy yarn for me. i plan on going about it rather slowly and cautiously. uh oh, didn't know that about the book not being for beginners. sheesh!
I hadn't crocheted in a few years...I did find that the soft waves pattern had a bit of a booboo, if you know what to look for it's really easy. Email me if you want and I'll send you the corrected version(well for me anyway) Oh that and youtube supposibly has a few great videos on how to crochet:) And I agree with the worsted weight comment, that will make it go soooo quick. And maybe a H or an I hook depending on gauge and how tight you want the rows to be...Can't wait to see pics. m_darcey@yahoo.com
Woohoo! Good luck! You might want to start with just a dishcloth or something when you're learning though. Just to help you get the hang of it.
Good point, Anina. I started with potholders.
It could be a RIPPLE dishcloth, though. :)
