Rippling along on the afghan for the beach condo. I'm sort of regretting that I included the dark red (rust?) yarn. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm worried that it's distracting.
It's a yarn thing. It's a crochet thing. It's sometimes a knit thing too. It's a getting back to the basics thing. It's the discovery of a mindless, escapist, reassuringly repetitive thing. It's a reveling in tradition, let it sooth your soul thing.

Not distracting -- it gives your blanket a good visual edge, in my opinion, BUT you'll need to repeat it throughout so that the eye "accepts" it.
I like the nice big waves, they make it look cosy. What yarn are you using?
I totally second Rae's opinion. You will love it once you see the repeat along the whole afghan. I like it already!
I think it makes the other colors pop, in a good way. I like it.
