Round Rainbow Ripple Finished

Finished size: 52.5". Two skeins each of Caron Simply Soft Brites 3 oz. in 6 rainbow colors, I needed 3 skeins of the purple (aka Grape). Total of 15 3 oz. skeins. H hook.

The pattern is Aztec Sun from the Leisure Arts booklet, 40 Favorite Ripple Afghans. I modified it a little bit to accommodate the stripe pattern I used. Basically, I followed the pattern as written, starting with 3 row of pink at the center, but changing colors every other row until I reached the second sequence of fill in points (yellow parts on my blanket). I wanted all of them to be yellow so I made the second set of fill in points 3 rows earlier than the pattern called for and fudged the rest.

It's a baby blanket for a family member. I really love how it looks, the colors were so fun and happy, and I know it will be super soft after it's washed. I'm spraying it with water and letting it air dry to block it.

This is gorgeous. I absolutely love the colors.

Just a stupid question. I've seen many do these round ripples lately and I think they're really beautiful, but what do you use them for. The shape seems to be a bit odd for a bedcover, or a blanket on the couch or something like that, but maybe that's just me not really getting how big they are?

Carola, good question. I'm thinking as a baby blanket, it will be good to put over the stroller or to keep the wind out of the carrier, or maybe to spread on the floor for baby to play on. I've never used one this shape myself, so I don't know if they work well as couch throws or not.

This one is awesome! I bet there will be a run at the stores on the 40 Favorite Ripple Afghan books now!

Depending upon how big you make them, they can totally cover you. I make mine about 70 inches across and since I'm only 5'4" it covers me from neck to past my toes and is very cozy while sitting in my recliner watching TV or working on another one. I posted a picture, a little while back, of my finished round ripple atop my king sized bed.

I think that is the prettiest blanket I have ever seen. I've made a lot of blankets myself, and about 10 of them are ripples in mohair, but never anything as pretty as this.
