New Afghan!

I'm working on a round ripple pattern I found over at Bernat's website:

The pattern starts out a bit finicky- I've had to alter a couple of spots to keep it lying flat. I think it's going to turn out pretty though! I'm working it up in Oyster Heather and Spruce worsted weight Wool of the Andes from KnitPicks.

I made this afghan for my school's PTO auction. It sadly didn't get much interest, perhaps because it was 90 degrees that day!! Still the person that won it was thrilled to have it so that's all that matters right?

I used Susan B's pattern, and Red Heart yarn in Royal and Bright Yellow.

Note: This post doesn't specifically deal with ripples, but it is definitely applicable to a ripple pattern. Sorry for the slightly off-topic nature, I'm just really looking for some feedback on this.

So, I recently saw a tutorial from a British crocheter on how to do a US double crochet (known as a treble crochet in the UK). At first I skipped over it to get to the part of the pattern I was interested in, but when I came back to it, I noticed something odd. The instructions for this stitch differed from the way I learned to do it. At first I thought, "Oh, she must have gotten something mixed up!," mostly because it sounded like an extended double crochet to me. At this point, I decided to do a little research on the interwebs.

Guess what I found out?

Apparently, I have been working the double crochet incorrectly for as long as I've been crocheting! It's pretty odd too, because it's neither a double nor a half double, but seemingly a hybrid of the two. So, here's the difference:

The instructions I found for it indicate that you should:

yarn over

insert hook into stitch

yo, draw through first loop (the stitch that's on the hook, so that there are now 3 loops on the hook)

yo, draw through two loops (so that now there are two loops)

yo, draw through the last two loops.

In contrast, the way I was taught is as follows:

yo, insert hook into stitch

yo, draw through first TWO loops on hook (that's the stitch that's on the hook plus the first loop) so that there are 2 loops left on the hook

yo, draw through last two loops on the hook

Furthermore, the instructions I found for a half double crochet were:

yo, insert hook into stitch

yo, draw through first loop (leaving three loops on the hook)

yo, draw through remaining three loops

Is this just a different tradition in crochet stitches? I could swear I have seen this double crochet in some of my mother's old crochet books. I don't plan on changing the way I crochet over this, but I did find it to be somewhat odd. Does my method sound familiar to anyone else out there?

Below is a photo of two baby blankets I have started, since my niece and one of my sisters-in-law are both pregnant! One is a simple little ripple that will alternate between mint green and bright white, and the other will be a super-sized granny square with the same color theme. Wish me luck! :)

Rippling again after quite some time

I'm feeling a bit discouraged. I have the pattern I used on my first one, which came out great. But for some reason I can't get this one to work out. My 1st row is perfectly ripply but the next several rows are flattening right out. Somehow my increases & decreases are lining up properly.

Frogging for the umpteenth time. Wish me luck.

I thought these colors looked cute... light baby blue, mint green and pale yellow (doesnt really look pale in this pic, actually the colors doesnt show up at pretty in this pic., looks better in person). Theres ALOT of mistakes in this ripple too,

Hello, I've been following everyone's lovely ripples for some time and wanted to share some of mine. They all look a bit bumpy and uneven, but that's because they've been ~~stuffed~~ folded neatly into bags because I'm out of wool for them. I seem to pick wool's from hell for my ripples because I always manage to pick a colour/maker that my wool shop likes to discontinue as soon as I get a few rows under my belt. Grrr.

Anyway, here's where I'm up to with my tribute to Cath Kidston...

I've run out of the pale blue which is a James Brett 400g aran and (stupidly) I threw away the band so have no idea of the shade to order more now that my local shop stopped stocking it.

My next ripple has a Halloween theme and uses black, orange, purple and vari purple DK.

The shop picked the orange wool to stop stocking for this ripple and (again) I don't have a label so don't even know who makes this one. Double Grrrr.

My final ripple isn't really a problem to find wool for, as it's my oddment ripple. I just use whatever is leftover from other projects. Easy.

I'm not really loving this one though, as the colours are anything but complimentary together. However, I'm loving 'doing' it because there's something very relaxing about ripples.....as you all no doubt know already, lol.

Progress slow, maybe done by next winter?

My ripple's coming along, but it's turning out huge! I wanted that, because it's for my tall dh and ds to fight over for a couch blankie, but each row seems to take a long time. I'll get it done, but since winter's about over here in South Florida, I'm going to aim for next fall for a completion date. If I get it done sooner, yay for me. Meanwhile, it's big enough to cover me up while I'm working on it, unless one of our cats decides to take a nap on it at the same time.

What to do when the ripple goes straight

Hello and thanks for letting me join!

I am desperate to make my first Ripple blanket but have hit a problem with the lack of rippling of the first row.

I have made the mistake of retaining in my little head a tip about making your foundation chain. I think it said 'use a smaller hook than the main pattern' but fear now I may have made that up. Is that a real hint? So, my incredibly long foundation chain was quite a wiggle to get the hook into for the first row but I persevered.

It was rippling on the first, green row.

However, subsequent rows has made it straighten out, and the latter rows to bump up most unbecomingly.

I have never seen a Ripple anywhere that has bumps and ridges in like mine. They cannot be flattened so my too tight green row is effectively gathering them.

It is far too long anyway, taking a ball of wool a row so I am right aren't I in calling it a day and starting again?

Just thought I'd ask before I pull the whole lot.

Hope someone can tell me if my theory is the problem.

Hooking for Grandma

I'm so glad I found Lucy's pattern. I don't know when I've enjoyed working with a single pattern so much before. The granny square Grandma Wagner taught me when I was young is the only thing that halfway compares. Grandma made lots of ripples in her crocheting career, so I hope she's pleased with how this one turned out.

Last year, my cousin's youngest daughter, Katie, got married, and Grandma asked if I'd crochet an afghan for her to give her as a wedding present. (Grandma's in a nursing home now and unfortunately doesn't see well enough to make the stitches.) Yeah, I will! I did that one in hdc blues, Katie's favorite color. This summer, her sister, Jennifer, is getting married, so I'm hooking for Grandma again. (I sort of want to put that on a T-shirt!) Jennifer's favorite color is, you guessed it!, purple, so that's what I used.

This is my 1st ripple. I started it in Jan. I love the bright colors. I just used leftover rolls of yarn from another afghan I made. Its not perfect, theres alot of little mistakes in it. But thats ok cause I just made it for myself :) My side seem to grow if I'm not careful. I've already started another ripple and its not perfect either. I will keep trying til I get a perfect or almost perfect ripple.

Granny Ripple Finished

I used a "G" hook and Simply Soft yarn in Brites. The Pattern comes from a small booklet called Nursery Favorites by Leisure Arts. But I simplified the pattern and if you want to do that also or prefer not to buy on line you can use this pattern.

The colors are Coconut, Mango, Watermelon, Lemonade, Lymelite, and Blue Mint. The pattern I used was five rows of each color and two rows of Coconut separating each color. I worked my way up to the center (blue) and as you can see I did a double center and then worked my way back down the color spectrum. I am pleased with it and hope they will be also but I would call it more of a crib blanket at this point since it is so large.

One more hat done. This one is called Ripple Baby Hat and was made using the cotton flocked ribbon yarn and Sassy Stripes by Moda Dea in the color Rave. This was a quick hat to work up and would of been even faster if I had not chosen to change colors.

There are some great new projects here, how exciting!

A new ripple has been a long time in the conceiving stage. I'd wanted to make one that I liked as much as my old Rowan Ripple, but couldn't find just the right yarn. Along came Knitpicks Palette, originally purchased for a finicky colorwork purse. At around 2 dollars a substantial skein, this fingering weight yarn comes in an insane range of saturated colors and is a fabulous bargain. I'm using a size E Clover crochet hook with ergonomic handle, and the whole experience is delightful--the yarn isn't splitty, but moves along the hook with speed and ease and shows the swoops and peaks of the ripple pattern very nicely. I'm in deep like with Palette, I can tell you. And I'm really happy with the crazy color combo of this blanket. All in all, a satisfying project.

I have started a new ripple for the new addition to our family that is to take place in October of this year. It is a granny ripple and I am using Simply Soft for the yarn in the Brites of Watermelon, Mango, Lemonade, Blue Mint and Limelight. Of course each color is separated with Coconut. I have only begun so all the colors are not visible yet but I will post another photo when I have a bit more done.

It's a acryl yarn from "wibra"shop, only one euro per 100 gram and I made all my other ripples from the same yarn. (it can easy be washed in the washing machine!!)

Started a new afghan for 2010 on New Year's Day. I'm using Berroco Comfort yarn for its non-itchy quality, and Susan B's pattern with the ridged option, size I hook. It's nice to be rippling again, after a lot of knitting in the past year or so.

New Year Ripple Finished!

Deliberately timed to finish today (I worked the final round of the border this morning), here, at last, is the ripple afghan I started on 1 January 2007.

After my mother passed away in 2001 my dad sent me all her yarn (in 13 boxes!). I wanted to use some of it to make myself a small afghan to put over the back of my chair and snuggle up under on cold days. The Unger Roly-Sport was the only yarn there was enough of - everything else was just one or two balls. But I'm glad she had plenty of the Roly-Sport because it's so soft and squishy. I wonder what she meant to do with it? I hope she'd be pleased with my choice.

Hello Ripplers! Now that I am back to a 8-5 job and dating again after my divorce (yeah!) I need some help with this blog.

As you may have noticed that there are some comments on your posts that are -weird- or just links to bogus sites.

I can't delete comments once they have been posted, and I would rather not have to turn on moderation, but the only other option is to only allow comments from people in the group and that seems too exclusive.

Would someone like to moderate the comments? What will happen is that the comments will come to your email and then you have to say "yeah or nay". Pretty easy, but best done by someone that is on the web more than I am able to be lately.

First one that volunteers gets the job.

Hurray! The rippled afghan for our youngest son is finnished!

I discovered the grannysquares-pattern while I was crocheting this one...

...and loved these too! So I combined the two patterns.

The squares fit inbetween the ripples very nice and so I also made the sides into the stitch that you use in granny squares.

I used a 100% acrylic yarn, cheap but very strong (I use it for years for knitting too) and easy to go into the washing machine.

But what now? What will I do in those free minutes that I used to ripple?

Hmm.... I must admit;

Now I stardet a super big granny to become a blanket for myself. I choose the same yarn, but in the collors sand and white. I don't know exactly how it will look finaly, I just make up a pattern during the process.

My rippleproject

I've only first learned to chrotchet resently. I'ts something I've wanted to learn for years, and this spring I jumped right into it, and with the help from other bloggers, I'm now well on my way.

The first projekt is this ripple. I'ts not qiute finished yet, BUT still I wanted to show it to the world. I'm so proud, and when it's done, a new one will be started. This time in more controlled colours. I'm thinking maby more dark and fit for the winter to come.

I'ts used cotton yarn, and i've been collecting it from all sorts of places. I'm amaced of how many diffrent shades there is to be found. :-)

My First Ripple

I made this for my cousin’s soon-to-be-born baby boy. I so enjoyed this whole project, from finding a ripple pattern I could actually figure out—I used Lucy’s pattern; I’ve tried others and given up on them (“There must be a mistake in this pattern!”), but Lucy’s pattern and photos were so clear and the results are just what I was looking for; to shopping for the yarn—I wanted organic cotton but all I could find was hand wash only, and I didn’t want my cousin cussing me every time she hand washed it with a newborn possibly crying in the background; to deciding on the colors—I made a collage of the registry items, saved the file on my phone, and went to my LYS; to actually crocheting it—much of which was done with cat eyes trained very intently on the yarn. I carried all those happy-colored Lily Sugar ’n Cream balls in a big basket and loved rooting through them all to find the next color. My cousin seemed to like the blanket, and others “Oooh!”ed and “Aaaah!”ed over it as she held it up. I got a few “Did you make that?!”s and even a couple “You could make me one if you wanted ....” As much as I love my cousin and wanted to make it for her and her new kiddo, I admit I was a little sad to give it away and leave the baby shower without it. I did give it one last, fleeing glance, sitting there on the gift table, as I walked through the door.

Well, I started a BIG queen-size bedspread, oh, 2.5 years ago, my how time flies. I got it 1/3 done and realized there was No Way, so it went into a bag. I thought it would be okay for a nap-ghan, so i sewed the ends in. NOW, I know it must be crocheted back into the pattern from Crochet! May 2009 p. 52, they call Ripple Shells. It must be normal afghan sized instead of bizzarely long and narrow. Here it is, folded in half length-wise:

Kawaii Ripple Scarf

I don't know what it was that made me realize that I had not rippled in years, but I think it had been that long since I've actually checked out this blog and drawn inspiration from all the wonderful projects shown here.

My latest is a scarf that is also inspired by this Kawaii trend that i noticed on Etsy. That is, brightly colored, super girly, often sparkly accessories and what not.

(That's me modeling the scarf)

I made it using Red Heart yarn and a size N Susan Bates hook. I think the thing about ripples that makes them so easy for me to forget is the TIME that's needed to complete something like an afghan. But, with a large hook, small project, and WW yarn- I had this scarf done in a few hours.

It's as bright (if not brighter), but a bit cooler in color, as pictured here and will be listed in my Artfire Studio when I'm done editing the photos for it.

My Fiesta Baby Ripple

Here's my latest ripple using Red Heart Strata for the variegated colors and Red Heart solids for the others. I wound up having to use the solid colors because I couldn't find any Strata for sale at the time......of course, Murhpy's Law kicked in and when I was almost finished, I saw it at Mary Maxim's online (at least I think that was where I saw it). After running it through the washer and dryer it's as soft as a lamb and I'm very pleased with it as I know a little one will be snug and warm when covered with this ripple made with love. Let me know what you think.

It's been a long time since I've checked out the Ripplers, and I'm enjoying going back to see all the lovely projects!

I've done a couple of Ripples since I lasted posted, long long ago...

I finished a rainbow ripple for my daughter, out of Lion Brand wool (no pic yet, but she loves it, she says).

I'm now working on a ripple using Rowan Cashsoft DK--I'm very much enjoying the feel of the yarn, it's lovely and soft:

Rippling is still, after several years, a welcome respite from my knitting projects. So relaxing, so much fun, so many many possibilities!

My rippled afghan was finnished today! I am so happy...and my little boy too, as this will be 'his' blanket...

I have loads of this lilac and purple yarn leftover. What shall I make with this?

As my other boys like a personal blanket too, I have stardet a white-lightbleu-darkblue one already... Yes, I guess you can say that I am addicted to the rippled afghans..

Here is an update from my rippled afghan! I stardet it last autumn (you can see that here ahttp://neisripplealong.blogspot.com/2008/10/dutch-rippel-along.html) and it is almost finnished... As you can see, my son loves it! It is made of cheap acryl yarn, so easy in the washing machine.

I'm nearly halfway done on the second of a pair of baby blankets for my soon-to-be arriving twin nieces/nephews using one of the really easy ripple methods I found on this blog.

Now that the kids like spending time on the playground, and are old enough I don't have to hover, I'm getting multiple rows done at a time.

I've made a mistake, not just one little easy to unpick mistake, but an on-going really foolish mistake. Instead of using double crochet throughout as the pattern says to, I realised on Wednesday evening that I've only been using double crochet for the increase and decreases and single crochet everywhere else!

The top blue row on the photo below is correct but it is wider now than the others and smoother, Im not sure if I should keep going or unpick, I've written about why I dont wat to unpick on my blog http://joshyandbelle.blogspot.com/

Will this all sort out when its blocked, does anyone have any advice,

Come to the Water

I'm crocheting this up for a local knit & chat charity group at my church. I'm naming it Come to the Water as I am hoping to have it finished by Easter, it is something I wanted to do through Lent. I instantly wanted blues and greens and it looks so much like shades of water together.

I used Susan B's Ripple pattern but I'm going to have to think of a way to put a border around nicely to give more width, mine is currently 38 wide.

I haven't done much crochet lately mainly a lot of knitting, you can visit me here. Or on Ravelry I am TeaMouse.

New round ripple for Leah

I started this ripple last week for my friend, Leah, who is fighting breast cancer. She is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. My other friend, Steph, and I accompanied Leah to her last chemo session and we brought along our knitting and crocheting projects. I was able to get one hat done for her while we were there (almost 2 but had to rip it out ARGH!) and noticed how cold she got. The cancer center gives everyone a blanket to bring to their chemo treatments but since the hat and scarf set I made for her was in Steelers colors, I decided to make her this afghan to match. While I was crocheting away on that hat, the nurses told Leah to ask if I'd be interested in donating to their "hat tree" and, of course, I agreed. Their hat tree stands in a hall and it's a where people pin hats they've made and the hats are free to anyone who wishes to take one. While it's warming up here in Las Vegas, Leah tells me her head still gets really cold, especially at night, so I'll be sure to bring one or more every week when I'm there with her.

I've got one and a bit sleeves to go, a wash, a block and then find a nice pin to fasten it with. Can't wait to wear it! Just please don't ask how my ripple afghan is coming along. ;-)

At least I was with the first afghan I made. I had been reading this blog for awhile before attempting to learn the ripple stitch. I was intimidated after reading some blankets took months to make. I'm more of an immediate gratification kind of gal.

I found the simple directions right here -- double crochet with increases and decreases of 3 for the peaks and valleys.

I've decided my dh is officially the color-picker- outer. He bought these yarns for me for Christmas. Finished blanket works great in both our living room and bedroom.

No fear, once I got started I couldn't stop and finished this blanket in 10 days -- much to the chagrin of everyone else in my family, even though they now all fight over it. Here's my youngest asleep under it and Alice on top.

Good evening!

1st I want to say that i am so excited in joining this list. 2 of my favorite blankets I made my youngest daughter 18years ago were granny ripples and I still use them today. One was white and two shades of blues and my absolute favorite is the white black and grey. I love how that one turned out and will snap up a pic as soon as I can remember and share with you all.

My name is DeeDee and I came across your wonderful group by browsing yarnydays blogspot. Wow how wonderful and so very busy, when do you find time for your studies? :-)

I am 47 and have three daughter, Nina is 28, Kim is 25 and Bonnie is 17. I am married to Kurt and he is the most precious gift I could have received (other than my girls) and I cant imagine life without him, so I don't. I take care of two small children ages 2 and 3 during the week and once a month I get my sister grandbabies (who called me Granny since she lives in VA and I live near them here in Texas). Their visit was yesterday and I get them again for spring break starting next weekend. LOL A glutton for punishment.

My Aunt taught me how to crochet backwards, I am a lefty and I do so wish knitting could be taught that way. My two oldest knit as did my Grandmommie and my Aunt. Together as a family we all also sew, crochet, love to cook, draw (my oldest is an interior designer) and create just about anything. We will try anything once and if someone says we cant then we do all we can to show them we can. Not sure if that is the English in us or the Indian. LOL

I have a large grouping of pets, 3 grandpups (Copper is Nina's, Roo is Kim's (shes a RN in training) and Pearle is Bonnie's. Then there is Trixie the outside pup that adopted us after her parents dropped her off. Such a cutie! Then we have a cat Meowsers is her name, killing mice for presents and teasing the pups is her game! LOL Last but not least Bonnie and I and two rats. Daisy is mine and Marcineaux is hers. Was rather gross at first them they grew on me and I love the rattie finger kisses they give me.

Well I guess that is about it. I love to crochet and I collect yarn, fabric and patterns. I like to think of myself as old fashioned because this new woman is a little too independent for my tastes. I have been crocheting baby gifts, wearables and barbie items lately.

I comleted this in around 3 nights of crocheting as a birthday gift for my best friend - she loves the colour yellow - I wanted to make it all the light lemony colour but ran out of stash so added the bright yellow around the outside.

I think it still looks nice.

Hello everyone, here is my first ripple so far! I've just started on the blue row. I'm using the soft waves pattern, which took me quite a while to figure out as I was decreasing into one chain, don't ask me why I thought that!!!

Thanks to everyone who has posted on this blog I've been drooling over the lovely ripples thinking I wish I could do that for so long, until finally I asked for the books for Christmas and just jumped right in, I'm glad I did!

I'm using Rowan Pure Wool in quite a few colours but all the same sort of tone, if that makes sense, and I chained 423 to fit on our kingsize bed. I'll post more photos here and on my blog (http://joshyandbelle.blogspot.com) as I do more.

It's finaly finnished! After about three months I finaly finnished this blanket...

The collor-scheme was designed by myself and I crochet ripples at the sides too..

An the blanket was used befóre it could be washed! It is crochet with cheap acryl, but very good washable, so easy to use and soft.

This blanket was based on a scarf that I meant to make. The entire project took me about nine or ten months, I think. I had lots of other projects going at the same time, so it dragged for a while.

Notes: Chained 144. Next time I will go bigger! This would have been a nice size for a baby, I think. Luckily, I have a small dog who is willing to put the blanket to good use, but my kids are definitely too big to use it for TV time.

These are for you, EmmaApple. I appreciate that you explained to me in your comments section, how to make these rippled wrist/hand warmers. I made these 14 rows long because my hubby wants extra coverage for his wrists while birdwatching with binoculars.

The best part is that they worked up quickly and easily! I hope to make more soon.

This is the completed ripple for my niece's Christmas gift. It's made with Caron Eco Soft (WalMart replaced Simply Soft with this and it feels about the same, plus it is made from recycled soda bottles). The colors are soft mint (which isn't minty at all), twig, and chocolate. Other than the twig part, the colors sound tasty, don't they? It finished out to about 38 inches by 48 inches.

I only seem to be able to complete one ripple afghan a year and here is this year's. I made this for my dh, who wanted a lapghan. It came out approximately 41"x48". I used 7 different colors of Caron Simply Soft. I chose colors at random for the first color repeat, and then used that pattern 4 more times to complete the afghan. He used it this morning and pronounced it perfect, so I am a happy camper!

Ripple Gloves

Hi, just thought I would show all you lovely ripplers the fingerless ripple gloves I made up for my friend Zoe for Christmas.

Made from 3 colours of Cascade 220, worsted and a 4.25mm hook, I basically just did a 32 (+2) chain swatch of Susan B.'s Ripple pattern (link on the sidebar), and sewed up the sides leaving a hole for the thumb. They were really quick too, I finished both in one night.

They turned out ok I think. I am going to make a matching ripple scarf to go with them.

Well, I ran out of the scraps I had that were long enough to work across this afghan so I called it finished last night. Then I was up early this morning, could not sleep, and worked on the border until I got tired. I added two rounds of dc in Caron One Pounder in the color Taupe. It was a nice neutral color to go with all the others that were in the ghan. I used the "J" hook for this project and Susan B's Easy Ripple pattern.
I have another ripple type project planned but it won't be started until after the holiday.

Hurricane Ripple

Haven't posted to this blog in a LONG time. I call this blanket the Hurrican Blanket because I did almost all of it while evacuated to my parents house during Hurricane Ike.

At first I didn't really like this blanket all that much. I had a "vision" for it and it didn't really work out the way I had planned. I originally planned to put this on my couch, but one cold night I took it into my bedroom and discovered that I love the way it looks in there.

I didn't plan for it to go with the duvet and shams, it was just a happy coincedence. In fact while I was making the ripple I had totally forgotten that I even had that duvet set. We had recently moved and it was still in a box.

So it's finally starting to really grow on me.
YAY!

My first round ripple

This is a baby quilt for a co-worker. His wife just had a gorgeous baby girl!
This is my first attempt at a round ripple. It was a little too ripply, it seems, as it didn't want to lay completely flat. Is that normal, or did I goof? Either way it worked out because it just looks like a big ruffle around the baby. The center is a baby pink, with a round of a multicolored baby print and then edged in white.

This is the color combination that you all helped me with. I think it is turning out rather well. The blue is a true aqua color with a medium brown called "twig" and the dark brown is "espresso." I like having the medium brown to add a little depth.

Thanks oodles and bunches for helping me with my dilemma in choosing colors for my niece's Christmas throw! I have really gone back and forth on this one.

However, she (unknowingly) clinched it when she confided in a family member that she never got to select something color wise without a well meaning adult pressuring her to change it to suit their tastes. Well, that did it for me. This kiddo that I love so much will get exactly her color preferences.

Of course, they are not necessarily choices that I would have made, but I can always make another throw for her when her tastes change :-)

That gives me another ripple to plan....

Hi all,
I am just about to start a ripple lap quilt for my niece. She is 12 going on 20 (okay, they all are at that age!) and loves really trendy color combinations. Right now, she adores chocolate brown with a pale blue. She can't stand any traditional girly colors.

My question is this: I have a dark, espresso brown, a heathered chocolate brown and the blue she likes. Will this work up as something that she will like for years, or should I add some other sophisticated colors (no pink or lavender) so that she can enjoy it as she grows up, but also include her faves. I have enough partial balls around here to jazz it up with the primary colors being her faves.

What would you do?

I stardet last month with an rippled afghan too... The first ever! I live in the Netherlands, and rippled afghans are not common overhere, so I never had seen one. But at the internet, I suddenly found some and fell in love with them...
So I stardet with a white and green one. I must admit, the beginline is too small, but it is growing and looks nice...

And, when my sister gave me a bag full of yarn...I had to make a seccond one.

After one week ...

And now, after two weeks. It is going to be a blanket for our youngest, who likes to take naps on the sofa. I must admit that this is realy addicting...

I am a new member of this blog site and wanted to share the ripple afghan I am making. I have visited and left notes many times but never took the time to join the members list.

I am using scraps, a "J" hook and the easy pattern found at Easy Ripple Afghan to make this scrap afghan.

I really love rippling and have two books with stitch patterns but as a person who loves to crochet there are always a zillion and one projects I want to do. Therefore it seems that ripple always get thrown to the back burner.

It has been a really long time since I have worked a ripple and I like the way this one is coming out. It is not finished yet as it is a scrap afghan so I had to wait to get more scraps. I do have a small bunch of balls building back up so I will get back to it soon. Then of course there are all those Christmas gifts to make. Anyone else have the same problem at this time of year?

My Very First Ripple

I am dying to make a ripple blanket for my daughter, so I bought the Jan Eaton book, and decided to make a little sample blanket out of soft waves, just for practice. (It is now a babydoll blanket). I used Cascade 220. It was leftover from a granny square afghan that I made for my oldest daughter.

I am really glad I did the sample. I learned that I will need to cast on with a larger hook next time, and I also learned that my gauge gets looser with each row. Maybe I was crocheting tightly in the beginning because I was learning how to ripple. (I'm also a fairly new crocheter).

Anyhow, here are pics of my very first ripple project. I am a huge fan of the ripple!

I would love to hear how everyone sews in their ends when they ripple, and I would also love to know if y'all have any tips on changing colors.

I'm so proud to be a part of the "No-End-In-Sight Ripple-Along"!

Hello! I am new around here, but I have been lurking for quite some time. Now that I have been officially made part of the group, I thought I would share my two ripple afghans. The first one is in off-white, medium green, and dark forest green for my 10 year old son to use on his bed. This is a closeup of the edge. It shows the colors a little bit better. This one was made with Susan B's easy pattern with two strands of worsted yarn held together throughout and a size N hook. The yarns were various cheap-o stuff that I could find at Wal-Mart, nothing fancy, but the blanket turned out warm and soft anyway. My kiddo loves it and won't sleep without it, even in summertime.
This is a scrap one that I made as a chair throw. We always seem to need blankets and such to lay under. I used scraps of various and sundry left overs with black ripples between. The black yarn is the only yarn I bought for this purpose. It is Red Heart Super Saver in the gigantic skein. I finished it off with black tassels at the points on both ends. I only wish it had been a bit wider. Live and learn!

Susan B Question!

HELLLLP!! I am starting my second ripple and chose the Susan B's Easy Ripple again. Last time I made it in the narrow size, this time I chose to chain 178 to make the larger one. However, when I reached the end of the chain I ended with a dip instead of a peak as my last "dooey". So, when the instructions say for the second row to skip one, chain seven, three dc in next chain, I don't have that as an option because I'm beginning on a down-stroke. Anyone know how to adjust this so that I don't have to unravel my first row and part of the chain or something? Thanks for any tips!!

Another ripple in the works. All wool this time (unlike the last one which was all cotton), and in bright rainbow colours. I tried for a random colour placememt, but last night just had to frog it. I have learnt enough about myself to know that random is not my friend. A gentle graduated change between colours is, however, the way to my heart.

Let's hope this one is a little quicker than the last!

Today I finished another blanket for Project Little Lambs. This one is just like the blues and greens one I previously shared, that being, the pattern warm waves from the 200 Ripple Stitches book. Again, a chain of 120 to start.

At first I just started crocheting in colors that I thought looked nice together, but then decided to do a series of repeating patterns. I think it looks nice, so much so that it will be hard to part with this one. It has a lot of loving energy in it.

Mystery Project

Hi all, its been awhile since I've had anything to post. I have started this "mystery project" for one of my friends who is having a baby. When I get further along on my project, I won't be able to report any more on it till the end, which I am hoping will go fairly fast, so that my friend won't know EXACTLY what I am making. Although I know these photos might give her a partial idea:

What I CAN report is that the yarn being used (so far) is Bernat Softee Baby in "Pale Blue" and "Funny Prints". If I like the finished project, I will also be making a couple more for some of my co-workers who are soon-to-be first time Grandma's, and maybe even a couple more for my new "Grand-twins" (pictured below)! So far, it has been a fun crochet project.

Here's my progress on the Noah's Ark ripple. I know. It doesn't look too exciting yet. But it will.

Why is the magic number 3? Everything on this ripple is done in threes. From the number of stitches between peaks to the number of half doubles used to create the decrease, it's all threes. Plus, I have three of these to make. I bet I'm sick of the pattern by then.

Would it be crazy to take a break from the ripple and start the add ons?

Here's my new ripple. I'm still working on the one for my daughter. But several people in my life are having babies, so I need to come up with some baby blankets quickly. This pattern was too cute to pass up.

I've substituted the cotton recommended for Caron Simply Soft. I couldn't get the cotton at my local Wal-Mart and I didn't want to go to the nearest LYS or Hobby Lobby. That's an hour away. But I think the substitution will work just fine.

first ripple project for me this year

For me, 2007 was the year of the ripple. 2008 may be the year of the hexagon blanket for me (so far 2 under my belt), but I needed to touch back into the ripple vibe.

I have a goal of making as many afghans as I can for Project Little Lambs. It will give me an excuse to continue my afghan/blanket crazed ways and an outlet for some of my stash. Beyond that it is a nice way to try out techniques that I may not like for a big project but are cool for a baby/child-sized one.

Here is what I have so far for my 2nd donation. This is a knitted ripple using the pattern Easy Ripple Baby Blanket.

I am using some discontinued Encore Colorspun DK from my stash. CO 142 stitches (34 stitch repeat + 6). Only 3 pattern lines, pretty mindless once I got past the fact that I couldn't keep count of where I was based on where the cast-on tail was. What is really nice is this pattern is totally reversible.

I am making this blanket for my cousin's newborn (her first). I am using a Waves pattern, I believe. I will post a link to the pattern when I find it. I am using Caron Simply Soft in off white and soft green. It's off a stitch... not sure how that happened, but by the time I noticed it I was so far along that I decided to keep going that way. I wanted it to be a light blanket, so the stitches are loose.

What do you think is a nice size for a baby blanket? This one is approx. 36" wide... that's with horizontal stripes. I could also turn it so the stripes are vertical, but I'm not sure how that would look. The bottom and top (with hor. stripes) are flat and edges are scalloped. I don't know how it would look with a scalloped top/bottom and straight sides. Hm. What do you think?

Well, I just finished my log cabin afghan. You can check that out here.

Now, I'm going to begin a new ripple for my daughter. I'll be using RHSS in Plum Pudding (See above) and some purple that I had in my stash that I feel coordinates much better than the current purple RH is producing. I'm using stitch pattern number 24 from Jan Eaton's 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns. I'm attempting to mimic a ripple that was made for me when I was a baby.

I'm so excited to begin this. I've been forcing myself to wait until I finished the log cabin. You know, exchanging one UFO for another. I'll post pics once I get far enough to show the colors and the stitch pattern.

This is a little baby ripple I was making as a gift for a friend. I used a 4 mm hook and 4ply yarn, and it took what felt like FOREVER to get finished. It is really lovely and lightweight though, while also being surprisingly warm, so I guess it was worth it. She doesn't know the sex of the baby, so I went for fairly neutral colours. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.

My ripple is getting bigger.... It's almost finished! I need to get back to it, I've been working on other crochet projects, thats why it's not done yet.

I'm disappointed that hardly anyone ever posts pics of their work here anymore.... Has all the rippling finally come to an end?? lol. I really enjoyed coming here daily and seeing everyones progress or new ripple projects posted, I've been checking every now and then lately but it seems to be dead around here.... I thought with all the cold weather the Midwest has been having this past month there would be more people spending more time crocheting and on the computer but I guess not... Picking my new ripple project

As you saw by my previous post I've finished a ripple and am ready to start another. I think it will be one of the two patterns shown. What is funny is they are both earthtones in their examples which is what I plan to use this time. Wanted to go totally opposite from my other ripple-it's pretty bright. I already had all the yarn pictured but had no plans for using it. It was all bought at the same time trying to corordinate with the varigated color skein.I have many ripple patterns printed from computer searches and the 200 ripple stitch pattern book, but I couldn't find one that excited me right now.I remembered that chevron was another word for ripple so I searched the web with that word and found some more new patterns includung the two above. As soon as I get something going I post a pic .

The general definition of occupation of course is a job, but having my crocheting or quilting, or any other handwork is an occupation which definately gives me tranquility. I felt it very appropriate.

First ever ripple done!

Here's a pic of my first ripple and I guess it's new owner. I started it late last summer after happening upon the ripple along. Since I had never made a crocheted ripple afghan I just used some of the yarn already in my stash. After a few rows of the different colors I did decide to only use brighter bolder colors. As long as it was practical, looked half decent and kept a person warm, I didn't want to spent a lot of time coordinating colors. I've been a quiltmaker for years and would spend so much time choosing fabrics. Then I made my first scrap quilt and that opened a whole new world for me. So many different fabrics that you don't expect to end up looking good together and that goes for yarn also. I guess the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For my next ripple I have coordinated and chosen totally diffferent colors.

As I mentioned above my cat, Cotton, will probably own this ripple. Ever since there was enough length done, I've had to position it so he could lay on it while I crocheted on it. The longer it got the easier it was for us to share.

I do have a quick question about these blog posts. For some reason my spell check here at blogger is not working. I click on it but nothing happens. I'm not real blog saavy but I know that things can be accidentally changed with the tap of one key. I'm wondering if I've locked up something without even knowing I did. Any pointers that I can check?
